Low 11 second Mustang???

OK, I'm not much of a street racer, but I think I may have to make an exception here...

I was at the gas station right down the road from where I live. The same Mustang with visual mods (aftermarket "ram air" hood, exhaust, lowered, etc.) was sitting there like it always is. I asked the guy behind the counter if it was his. It is, so I asked him if he ever ran it at the track. He said no. I asked what he thought it would pull. He said low 11s. I'm reeling a little from that as he tacks on that it's for sale. First $5K OBO gets it. I should have asked him how much nitrous he was running, but there was a line forming behind us. So now I am thinking. Does this guy really have an 11 second Stang???

I honestly don't think so. I just may have to set up a street race for his 5.0 vs my 3.0... if he'll run for fun. I know there are a few quick Stangs out there, but I don't feel this is one of them.

Maybe he'll run against me, maybe not. I'm going to see if I can set something up...

If he's truly running low 11's...he has some significant mods on it probably beyond nitrous.....and would probably be selling it for more than $5000 OBO. Most lightly modded V8 mustangs I've seen at the track don't run much faster than low 13's high 12's at best. Most stock run high 14's and low 15's.....just a shade quicker than a bone stock DOHC.
Hey Travis, a friend of mine has a 91 GT that is fairly modded. I believe he has ID Pulleys, filter, a supercharger running 10psi, trick flow heads, exhaust, and larger injectors. I spoke with him about drag racing yesterday and he said his goal is high 12's, but said it may be only a very low 13 sec car. So if this guy is in the 11's, he has way more than my friend has and I'm sure he wouldn't be letting it go for such a cheap price. Then again he could be running a huge shot of NOS.
A guy I know has a early GT Mustang (90/91) with a Paxton SC on it and with slicks, he just broke into the 12s and said it was running great. It takes some work to get low 11s for sure from a GT

That is what I was thinking. That's why I should have asked him how much nitrous he was running to get even close to the 11s.

When is your friend going to go to the track? I'm up for some friendly import vs. domestic runs. ;)

How is your luck going with that Stealth you were looking at?
I drove a 2002 GT at the track Saturday. Bone stock 4.6L SOHC push rod V8. Pulled a [email protected] It was cold, so the air was dense but the car also had all season radials and a full tank of gas.

I have seen some streetable mustangs that were solidly in the 12s, and a few with some forced induction that are in the 11s (albeit high 11s). The reality is, if the guy hasn't ever taken the car to the track he has no clue what it will run...

High 11s I would be scepticle, low 11s - no way..
You pulled a 14.2 bone stock??

that's pretty darn good. I don't think I've ever seen a stock '99+ 4.6 GT run a 14.2 at the track...I always see them run high 14s and low 15s...

Good driving!
The 99-ups 5spds all run low 14's stock. The automatics and pre-99's are a different story.

A guy from TampaRacing has a supercharged 99 that runs a mid 11. 99Missile is supposed to try to get his car running so he can race the guy this Friday.

Well, that is another part to the story, he was bragging about putting the SC on, but it was funny that I didn't hear from him about it for the next 2 weeks, I figured he would have been in the driveway the next morning. I cruised over to StangNet.com and it seems he is posting over there about not able to keep the car running, and after talking with him he said he had "tuning issues". I hoped he did everything step by step and didn't skip anything in his pursuit for speed, but it looks like he won't have it running in time for a friendly match but I'll let you know.

As far as the Stealth search, it was a 1993 with 66k miles, red, sunroof. It had a Borla exhaust, K&N, MBC, and 15g turbos, but the downside was it needed the 1-2 sychro. He was asking $14,500. I don't think he's gonna let it go for much less, and with the sychro going out it would be $15k+ before it was ready. So, back to looking!!!!!ARRRGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!
There is a Twin Turbo Kit that can be put on the 5.0 Stangs. With Some NOS or Alk-Injection with that I believe tha he COULD be in the 11's...It just doesnt make sense that he is selling it for only 5k. Unkess its one of those All GO and no SHOW cars that you always see at the Track..you know they put that extra grand into the engine and dont get the Hood painted or that dent in the door fixed :)
It doesn't take that much to get a mustang into the 11s, guys. TampaRacing has at least 10 of them, ranging from fox bodies to new 4.6's, and everything in between. One guy has a supercharged 5.0 convertible pushing 9XX HP and it looks like a beater! Then there's a yellow all motor 94 GT with a 347 stroker that runs a high 10. Shovel (a 3si member) had a 10 second all motor fox stang. You can buy a mustang for $1500, get a supercharger for $2500, and a few more bolt ons for $1000. Or you could get a Mustang with a bad engine forunder $1000, then put in a built 347 or 351/400. You can never tell if a Mustang will run a 15 or a 10.

Thanks ;).

Like I said before, Motortrend reported that the '02 GT was capable of [email protected], so considering it was cold and kind of slick I was quite happy with a [email protected] (with a full tank of gas).

I ran the car 4 times, and as with my car (and any other I drive it seems) the more I drive it the better my times get. Launching the car was difficult at best ;).

It was a blast to drive.
if that were a fox body style mustang they are very easy to get into the 11's... i have a 91 fox and am building up a motor for it that will be all naturally aspirated and im aimin for the 11's it takes an honest 370 horse for that stlye stang to pull them.. dont forget the aftermarket is very strong behind the mustangs and they have superchargers out the ass and twin turbo setups are getting to be quite popular also and can make a streetable 10 sec car easy.

I guess it's all the hot humid weather at the tracks this summer out here. They were all running mid-high 14s at best!!
I think the cold was good and bad. Good cause the air was more dense and would make more power. Bad because the sun never came out, and the track was way cold. I could never get any traction off the line and spun the tires at every shift.

I was impressed, and think it will be fun to watch my friend mod the car. It certainly has the potential to be bad ass.

Same here... Unless they are trailer queens they are running high 14s to low 15s. The only Stangs I ever see at the track that put down impressive (to me) numbers are not streetable. I guess once you start modding a $2K car there's no reason to not go ahead and convert it in to a race car and buy another as a daily driver. Makes sense to me...
Actually what I was driving was a 24k brand new car (700 miles, barely 1 month off the assembly line) with full leather interior and a full tank of gas.

According to Gruss (car owner) there are streetable Mustangs in the 12s and less.

Personally I like AWD better, but there were things about the Mustang I did like. Fortunately, Gruss lives right down the street so whenever he thinks his car is fast he can run me ;).

I think the car will get into the 12s while it remains his daily driver. That was my goal with my Stealth (accomplished) and denotes a fairly fast car IMO.

We'll see if it can do it.
mark,
nice meeting you sat by the way (at the track). and not to change the subject but have gruss get ahold of me. ive got a guy that wants his talon this weekend and has cash. hes from cleveland and wanted to know if he would meet at my place (kinda half-way). if so you should bring the stealth up, id love to see it. lata,
jeff
Jeff,

Last I spoke to Gruss (last night) he was going home this weekend. He's from Cleveland :). I'll have him get ahold of you.
11.95 Mustang Cobra

Right here is a VERY fast, VERY streetable, emissions legal all-motor Mustang. Granted, this guy can drive like a mofo and it's with DR's, but it shows that not all 11 second Mustangs are Fox-body beaters. It also shows that it can be done without nitros/blowers/turbos.

I hardly doubt there are more than a handful of these running around...but it deserves respect for being street-legal and emissions-legal, Mustang or not.

{edit}here's his timeslip....
