Hey,
Bought a Mitsubishi Diamante 3.5L SOHC complete engine but don't know what to do with it. It is complete so i'll probably part it out. But I was wondering, is the block the same as a 3.0L, would the DOHC heads work on the 3.5L block? I know nothing about this engine, does anyone have any info on it? Are they pretty good? Any ideas what to do with it? Are they worth a pretty penny (seems rare to me=$$$). I think it was used in the Montero as well.

I have a Diamante and know alot about them, thats an awesome engine and has awesome low end torque. There is NO POINT in switching anything over from the DOHC engine because they both have 24 valves. That engine is a 6G74 and yes more expensive than a DOHC 6G72. With the proper mods, that engine can produce tons of horsepower, anything you want for it, you will find at www.rpw.com.au Also there is a forum there that I'm a member of and you can sign up and post there. When you find somethin on the website that you like, you have to contact matt at www.visionimports.com because they are the U.S. distributer since RPW is in Australia.

Hey,
Thanks for the tips guys. Sounds like i'm getting a great engine. And it seems like i'm getting a deal. Could not pass it up for $50! What do you think it is worth if I tried to sell it?

Heh was it magnafluxed? Do you have any assurances that it doesn't have hairline cracks? It may not even be worth the $50 you shelled out for it if its cracked... Before you go making any huge plans, take it to a machine or engine shop and have it magnafluxed and hot tanked.

He shouldn't have that crap. We've already been over this type of thing in the past. 3si.org is not here to make money for posters, tying up our bandwidth loading advertisements.

COOL!

I saw it and briefly considered getting it, but I already have one:D

I've also bought an engine from LQK at the minimum bid (for an Escort:rolleyes: ) and so far it seems to run fine. I'm very interested to see if out heads and assorted parts will swap on. My 6g74 has the proper heads and assorted to fit in our car in it's proper orientation- yours of course is backward:) . Still, $50 is a hella deal.

Good luck. I hope we can use that engine for our cars.

Well the engine came today. It looks great. You can tell it was cared for and has low miles. It even had a mitsubishi oil filter on it. I had figured i'd just get a long block but it came with the intake, throttle body, injectors, fuel rails, as well as a bunch of other stuff that i'm clueless what they do. But what do you guys think I should do with this thing, try to sell the engine and make some cash or keep it as a spare? I was thinking of selling everthing except the shortblock in case I need it later. But is the basic 3.5 block alot different then the 3.0L in our cars? Can you just swap heads and everything else and have the same engine only 3.5L? Where is a good place to try to sell these parts or the whole engine? By the way, I dinged up the front valve cover with my lift. Anyone know where I can get a replacment valve cover for the front? Would the 3.0L SOHC cover work? Lot of questions I know!
