High RPMs

552 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  drpcs
Hi,

I have a 1992 3000GT VR-4 that has an idle set for 850. After about 20 minutes of driving the idle is at 3000 to 4000 rpms. Blipping the throttle does not help, does not feel like the throttle at all. The problem is most noticeable when I come to a stop and depress the clutch....the rpms hover around 3 to 4 thousand and do not dip down to the normal 850 or so. Any help?

Cable

Check the throttle cable, it may have come loose and came off the guide.
I would say either throttle cable or idle screw, and whereas I don't think the idle screw can turn the idle up that far, I agree with AgtBlank on the throttle cable part.
high rpms

Hi,

Checked the throttle linkage/cable and it is fine...did not fall out of it's track nor is it loose.

This is a problem only when the engine has run for 20 minutes or so, otherwise it is fine.
