What is the relation of gears to times?
Shorter gears means what exactly? -- That they last shorter through the RMP band & you'll have to shift quicker?

To change gears in a 3000GT VR-4 would you have to do this in the tranny? or the gear box, both or what?

thx.

Gearing changes the way you can accelerate.

The shorter the gears, the faster you will have to shift, so, 'yes'.

Longer (talelr) gears will not accelerate as quick, but will gear out better at top end. (hold speed better)

but, in reality, there is a power production limitation at the top ends speeds, like 160 mph or so. This makes it harder for the car to use the taller gears, even though the gearing is there, the power isn't.

Rebuilding the tranny would require custom gears, as our aftermarket for the 5 and 6 spd Getrag Trans does not exist. They have only become recently serviceable, thanks primarily due to Kormex.

I have heard of a few people having custom gear sprockets machined, but now you're getting into serious dough.

Most people find the current 5 and 6 speed gear ratios quite adequate.
