Are there limits for exhaust pipes? Say if you modify your exhaust system are you breaking the law? Any info would be appreciated. thanks

Are you thinking the pipes or the cat. converters? The rules vary from state to state, and a cat. converter is like a federal law, but noone knows the difference on those unless your are does emissions testing...

Depends...

Where I live, Oklahoma, no law enforcement agency cares as long as its not too loud. Thats a state by state, city by city deal.

Any non-approved (as a stock replacement for your model and year) type catalytic converter (or removal thereof) is not legal.

You can not even legally replace the stock cats with an approve replacement unless something is wrong with them (that why the salvage yards can't legally sell you a used cat, so they tell me)

If it has a CARB number (California Air Resource Board?) you can pretty much figure its legal anywhere.

If its is advertised as 49 state legal, its OK in the real world, but not CA.

If it says off-road, its not legal on road, but does your state care?

As far a performance, a high flow, california legal exhaust sytem will not be a major performance hindrance.
