Hi, i own a 92 gto na. I'm trying to figure out if a ecu i had purchased is right.
The ecu that failed was a
MD159961
E2T35673T
Now the new to me ecu are
MD159961
E2T35673M
Anybody know what the t and m mean?
I don't want to put it in the car and possibly damaged the unit.

I can’t explain what the T or M means, might refer to some kind of time indicator concerning production or maybe an indicator of production location. Either way the configuration number E2T35673 and part number MD159961 being the same and is proper unit for your car is all that matters.

I’m more concerned that I can’t find that part# and configuration# in any ’92 model year Mitsubishi car and I’d also be concerned if the original capacitors have been replaced, if you don’t know you could remove the cover and take few good resolution pictures from 2 or 3 different angles and someone here call tell.

Ok well that helps. Here's some pictures . Original ecu has blue capacitors and the working one has black. I'm not much of a technician sorry and can't tell you much more than that. As for the part number I can only find these part and e2t#s for the 91-92 jdm cars. Mines a 92 gto na awd imported from Japan.

OK… the part# being JDM NA engine cars might explain why I can’t find it listed, as the list I’m using covers all years of NA & TT engines for Eclipse, Talon, Laser, Galant, 3000GT, Stealth, but only covers TT engine versions of JDM not the NA engine cars. So sounds like your good as far as two ECU’s you have.

Here’s my take on the ECU’s condition, others may have a different view which I welcome as like most I’m not always correct. The first five pictures of what appears to be all black (unsure) capacitors looks to be all original capacitors, with the one nearest to the plug connectors obviously leaking. That would indicate all need replacing, board cleaned and inspected around the leaking one. The second five pictures of ECU with the one light-blue capacitor and three dark colored (dark brown maybe), the light-blue one has been replaced but the three dark colored ones look to be original. This indicates to me that at least the dark colored capacitors need to be replaced.

In summary I wouldn’t trust either for long working or not without first replacing the necessary capacitors, because if they haven’t failed already they will shortly. If I interrupted what you said correctly the ECU with all black capacitors (one leaking) is the operating ECU, I’d say consider yourself lucky because it’s not going to work for long.

white93gt thanks for the help bud. Much appreciated, ill send out the second ecu to have the rest of the caps swapped before I toss it in. The leaking ecu was still running the car, until the last time I started it. Started acting odd in the revs and wouldn't idle right so I pulled the ecu right away. Got the second one on a good deal so even with replacing the caps its still better than the 1300$ special order unit from Japan.
