Dyno Tuning my VR-4

760 Views 8 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  420_Friendly
Getting my vr4 put back together and my tuner only has a dyno set for fwd and rwd. Out of curiosity can i tune my car with just one axle or would have find a dyno tuner with an awd dyno to tune my car. I can post modifications list if requested. Just wondering just to see if I to relocate my car. Have a 93 3000gt vr-4 running with a gen 2 engine wire harness and AEM set up.

My understanding is no. Your VCU in the trans would be fried.

Alright thank you mate. Will go ahead and my tuner know and look for a shop that has and will do dyno tuning in south FL
Correct, even towing, you have to flat bed it unless you disconnect the drive shaft, otherwise you'll destroy the VCU if you two wheel it around. Finding an AWD dyno is a bit of a headache, I think the closest one to me is a few states away sadly.
i would go to real street performance which should be with 2 hours of you

Yeah it’s been a hassle to find the proper tuner or mechanic in south Florida. I’m aware of a guy in brooksville who works on the car yet that’s a drive for that to be getting done.

I’ve been looking into shops for the past week to see what’s available and can and won’t f up my car
I've disconnected the driveshaft and driven my vr4 around in 2wd BUT only in a parking lot to back it off a dolly.

Drives haft hangs down out of the way perfectly. I would think because the yoke is still spinning with the drives haft disconnected you should be fine loading it onto a 2wd dyno BUT I'm not sure I'm brave enough todo it with my own car.
Lots of tuners are familiar with aem so it's likely the shop you pick will know how to tune it. BUT you likely will have to sign a release that won't hold then liable if it does blow up. I did on my cars
