I AM OUT OF CAPACATORS I am keeping this thread alive because it has a lot of good information in it and I might buy another big batch if there is enough interest

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I bought a lot of extra capacitors for repairing ECUs because Digi-Key charges too much for shipping. Several people have inquired about the extras so I decided to set a official price.

I will sell you a set of 3 capacitors for $5 which includes shipping anywhere in USA. Add $0.30 for Shipping to Canada. Digikey charges $5 just for shipping. This is enough to replace all capacitors in 1 ECU.

Included are 1 of each of following digi-key capacitors:

22uF, 50v
100uF, 25v (replaces 100uf, 16v Capacitor on ECU)
47uF 50v.

NOTE: if you have a 91 or 92 3000GT SL you will need an extra 47uF 50 V capacitor, contact me for details, or see next message.

link to installation instructions:
http://www.tmo.com/howto/ecu1g/caps.htm

I believe this covers every year and model of ECU, If yours turns out to be different I will return your money

I am not an electrical expert I just bought a bunch of spare capacitors when I was chasing down a hesitation problem. Everthing I know came from the following thread.

http://www.3si.org/vbb/showthread.php?threadid=40653&highlight=ecu

I prefer paypal but will consider other forms of payment, my paypal account is:
[email protected]

The amount you paypay me will determine the type of shipping. FedEx picks up at 4:00 pm weekdays only (eastern standard). I need paypal at least a hour before then to guarantee shipping that day.
$5 1 set of capacitors USPS shipping 3-? days
$8 1 set of capacitors FedEx 1-3 day shipping
$14 1 set of capacitors FedEx 1 day shipping.

If you want Multiple sets add $2 for each additional set of Capacitors.

$7 2 sets of capacitors USPS shipping 3-14 days
$10 2 sets of capacitors FedEx 1-3 day shipping
$16 2 sets of capacitors FedEx 1 day shipping.

$9 3 sets of capacitors USPS shipping 3-14 days
$12 3 sets of capacitors FedEx 1-3 day shipping
$18 3 sets of capacitors FedEx 1 day shipping.

Note all shipping is for USA, please contact me for shipping outside the country. If you want more than one set of capacitors contact me for specific cost because shipping costs will not increase.

Note: I posted a new thread because my old Thread was getting Big and hard to read(over 5 pages). Original thread below

http://www.3si.org/vbb/showthread.php?threadid=47505

Please Note I changed my email address used for paypal on 3/4/02. New email address is listed above. I did this because altavista stopped offering free email.

Signs your ECU is going bad

I AM OUT OF CAPACATORS I am keeping this thread alive because it has a lot of good information in it and I might buy another big batch if there is enough interest

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Check these threads for signs your ECU is going bad.

http://www.3si.org/vbb/showthread.php?threadid=40753

Again I am not an expert, I just bought a lot of capacitors when I though my ECU was bad. (I actually had timing and vacuum leak problems) I was planning on keeping one set and selling off the rest but I think I just promised the set I was keeping so I will probably buy another batch and keep selling sets.

If you don't like messing with electronics take it to your local electronic repair shop or some S3i memeber will also repair them

klamathpro charges $100 But claims he can check for more than just Capacitor problems

91&92 SL might not work, not sure.

I AM OUT OF CAPACATORS I am keeping this thread alive because it has a lot of good information in it and I might buy another big batch if there is enough interest

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2 different people have confirmed that the follwoing ECUS have 4 capacitors

91 3000GT SL
92 3000GT SL

(2) 47mf 50V
(1) 22mf 50V
(1) 100mf 25v

On a better note I have verified that the following have correct capacitors.

91 3000GT VR-4
92 Stealth RT TT
92 3000GT VR-4
92 Stealth SOHC
93 3000GT VR-4
93 Stealth RT TT
* Please note the 94 and later ECUS used better capacitors from the factory so the odds of these being bad are low
94 3000GT VR-4
95 3000gt SL

Owners of the following vehicles bought capacitors but did not give me any feedback yet:

92 Stealth ES
94 3000GT SL
94 Stealth RT TT

9605.1 – 9705.3 MD339762
9706.1 – 9805.3 MD347250
9806.1 MD360163

Other ECU Part Numbers
MD159961 1991 Jap GTO N/A Auto, AWD, AWS (Thanks to Mcac & Oleg Reznik)

How to interpret dates:
I am using 9806.1 as an example:

1st and 2nd (2) digits are year so this is 1998
3rd and 4th (2) digits are month so this is June (6th month)
5th digit is 1/3rd of month (I think) so 1 = 1st 10 days of month

i had Wes H. on the board replace the capacitors that I bought from you. I am assuming that they were correct, because he never mentioned any problems.

if anyone is interested in having them replaced by Wes, email him at [email protected] for details.

i'm too lazy to post under the buyer/seller forum, but i highly recommend both John Monnin and Wes H.

Hey John, I e-mailedy you a while ago and I guess you never got it. I looked through my e-mail's pending folder and your was sitting in there. Sorry about that;) . Yes, the capacitors....I replaced them on my ECU....better response overall from the car. No more strange little noises. No more hesitation at all at idle. Overall, probably one of the best investments I have made. Take it from me guys....having an ECU that is not working properly can really.....really....really be a pain later. My ECU went out at the beginning of September and I finally found one that worked (after 6 that didn't) at the end of December. Anyway, thanks John I really appreciate it!

My new email address.

My new email address used for Paypal is now:

[email protected]

I did this because altavista stopped offering free email.

Please anymore feedback from people whop have installed capacitors I am trying to figure out what % were sucessful.

So far about 50% of people who emailed me were sucessful
about 25% the ECU was too damaged to save
about 25% the ECU was not the problem.

The problem with these percentages is that very few people who bought capacitors have emailed me the results of installing them, thanks to those who already have.

TTT

John, do you still have these for sale? Also did you ever hear back from the guy with the 93 R/T TT that bought the set. I think my computer may be on it's way out.

Thanks
David

Not sure which guty with 93 TT you mean but

I have plenty of Capacitors left, If I ever run low I will probably buy some more because I have fun doing this.

Not sure which guy with 93 TT you mean but last week Zach Parker paid me to overnight the caps to him because his ECU kept spitting out multiple error codes and the dealer said he needed a new ECU. I was worried the ECU was too far gone but I go an E-mail back saying it fixed the problem.

To me that's the coolest, when a dealer was going to charge $1000 but because of this message board someone was able to fix it for less than $20.

If I gave the Caps away for free and only asked for 10% of the savings for sucessful installations I would be able to put my kids through college!

I was just going to say that your links on the first page don't work. I think you cut & pasted them from looking at the main post page, so it shows the "....." marks. You have to cut & past them from your actual post, in other words the "edit" on your other post to see the whole threads. :)

I just ordered myself some.

thanks for helping us all out
