With the GM EFI motors, it was a cheap and fairly easy way to free up a few ponies, by indexing the spark plugs to optimize ignition. It seems to me, that the plugs on the Mitsu motors play an even bigger part in performance than other motors I have had (L98, 302BossEFI, etc). I'm surprised noone has mentioned indexing on this board yet. Is there something about the 3.0l head design that I am missing?

Diablo,

There is some info at the NGK website link in the resources section regarding indexing. They generally discourage it, stating that it is difficult to obtain and yields less than 1% gain in horsepower in dyno tested high compression race motors.

Yes, it is applicable in most american 2 valve designs, even including our Indy car motor, but not applicable in the 4 valve motors like most of the Japanese motors..

I know of a guy that did it on his third gen Supra. He dynoed and really didnt find a difference between the two. Plus he said it was really a huge pain in the ass for that little bit.
