I've noticed that when my 93 base (115k) is cold, the trans is slow to engage into gear the first time, seems to hesitate. Once I'm in gear and moving, everything works great. This seems to be true for either drive or reserve.

Is this an indication of problems to come, or normal?

Any info is appreciated.

First, check your ATX fluid level. Sounds as though you could be a little low. Maybe the filter, when was the last time you had it serviced?

Manual says it should be serviced and fluid changed every 30K.

I think I had a similar 'problem'

My wife's 94 SL Auto (about 62k then), when first started, would take a couple seconds to 'engage' and then you could feel it when it did. Almost like a kick.

I changed her Auto Transmission fluid and filter and the problem hasn't come back.

FYI, I used RedLine Auto Trans Fluid, but I don't know if that made any difference.
