it's both actually...it can play ps1 copies and ps2 copies as well as the original games.
The first gen. mod chip had like 11 wires, and would only play games that were NOT dvd-rom based, unless you used a gameshark...But the second gen. mod chip had somewhere around 33 wires and would play every game...even dvd-rom based ones. The 2nd gen. chip costs up to 100.00. Do you know which one is in it? Either one is good, but the 2nd gen is worth alot more.
