I just bought a 93 3000gt base. The transmission makes a whinning sound in 1st and 2nd gear...louder in first than second.
Also alittle bit in the bottom of 3rd. Is this normal? Ive never had 5spds and know nothing about them.
I think it is the original trans. car has 80k on it...clutch has been replaced once or twice. I dont know how 5spds are supposed to be. Its seems to shift fine, my dad says its alright and also some transmissions just whine in lower gears. But ya i plan on doing some new gear oil soon. I guess i will see what happens
Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Lubricant is suitable for all automotive applications where lubricants meeting API Service GL-5, are recommended. It can also be used in rear axles where an API Service GL-4 lubricant is recommended. It should not be used in any transmissions requiring an engine oil or automatic transmission fluid, or GL-4 performance level.
Hrmm you might be right, I would go with syncromesh. What is the gl rating for our cars?
I've always gotten a faint humming noise from my tranny, regardless of what gear it's in.. when I bought it, it had roughly 80k miles on it.. and right before my engine died I had putting another 30k on it or so
not sure why it makes noise..
