19" Wheels (Konig Tantrums) and Tires (Nitto vs Michelin)

Will the Following Konig Tantrums fit my 92 VR-4?

19x8
5-114.3 bolt pattern

Will I need spacers? Any problems hitting the calipers? How about rubbing in the wheel well, I should't have any rubbing because the total size of tire and wheel should be about the same.

As far as tires go, I'm thinking either 275/30 or 255/35 Both will yield about the same total diameter and thus should not rub. Even w/ my intrax springs. Will I have any problems w/ a 275/30 What are the pros and cons of a such a low profile tower.

Also, are Nitto Tires any good compared to michelins? I have always bought Michelin Pilot XGT tires, how do Nitto compare. Nitto makes the 275/30 and michelin makes the 255/35.

Thanks in advance for any help. O yeah, one other thing. The other wheel I'm considering is an 18" OZ F1 Plus (but I really want 19s and think the tantrums look cool)

Thanks again,
Chris

u will not clear the front brakes...
that tire size will not fit on a 8" wide rim. I run 18x9 konig tantrums with 255/35 in the front and 265 30 in the rear, and they clear no problem. If you wish to run 19" you will need the 19x9 and 255/30/19 in the front and 275/25 in the rear if they make it, or 265/25/19. And that is a pretty thin tire wall so tires will be very $$$ and you will have to keep an extremely close eye on tire pressure as you will not notice when you are low on air.
here's a pic of a tantrum on a stealth.

6g72tt: I don't believe Konig makes a 19x9 tantrum wheel. And why would I need different tire sizes between the front and back?

Thanks,
Chris
they do make a 19x9 but I'm not sure if the offset is +45mm, as that is what you need to clear the front brakes. As for differnt tires sizes front and rear I just did it for looks, it doesn't make much of a difference unless you start running insane amounts of power where it might help having a larger tire on the back. but even then it would be marginal with the AWD

Are you sure?

Thats from Konig's website, while they may not have all info online, it would seem as if the only 19 they make is the 19x8. Any links to where I can find a 19x9?

So the 18X9 +45mm clears the from brakes?? cool~

about ur tires... u r seriously riskin fryin ur transfer case with those tire combo.. the variation is a bit too much...

255/35/18 --> circumference: 1997.11mm
265/30/18 --> circumference: 1935.85mm
That what I thought when i bought mine and I was pissed when i found out they made 19x9. It not on the website but you can get them. the tires are mucho expensive though, so I guess I'm glad i din't get them as the tires would have broke my wallet.
I run 19x9 AVS Model 5's. Offset is 40. The tire size is 255/35/19 (Toyo Proxes T1-S). This is about optimal for handling because the sidewall is short and stiff and is ideally suited for a 9" rim width. The 255 is slightly taller than the RPM match size for the speedometer which would be a 245/35/19. This produces a very slight speedometer error but it so small as to be irrelevant. The 245 would ideally want a 8.5" rim width so using a 9" rim would create small amount of sidewall flex.

It is my opinion that a 275/35/19 wouldn't clear in the front. I am not aware that anyone makes a 265/35/19 tire. If you go to a 30 series (like a 265/30/19) you will need a 9.5" rim (minimum) to properly seat the tire. You could go with splits like a 245/35/19 front and a 285/35/19 rear (a combination that would be close enough in RPM that you wouldn't damage the VC) but this will require a 10" (minimum) wheel for the rear and a wheel between 8.5 and 9.5 " for the front (so a 9" would work well). It will be less optimal from a handling perspective but it would probably look nice.

Expect to pay between $275 and $325 a tire for stuff in this range, there are not many choices.

Do you know where I can buy the 19x9s? I just called the guys at
http://www.discounttiredirect.com/

But they say they only sell the 19x8. Any ideas?

Thanks again,
Chris
actaully i just checked, i have 255/35 on the front and 265/35 on the back.
i just talked to the company where the guy said he got the 19x9 and he was lying i guess because they said the largest is a 19x8. however he also mentioned that the extra diameter gives the rim enough width at that point to clear the caliper. but you would be limited to a 245 or maybe a 255 wide tire.
i recalculted the circumference:

265/35/18 = 1727.71 mm
255/35/18 = 1716.72 mm

a differnce of 11 mm. I presume that should be okay for the transfer case?

u'll survive~ :D
do you know what the max differnce allowed is? i never even thought about the x-fre case when i put the tires on.
opppsss.. dunno what calc ur using.. but mine shows:

255/35/18 = 1997.11mm
265/35/18 = 2019.10mm

difference of 22mm...

now, my tire combo

245/40/18 = 2052.09mm
275/35/18 = 2041.09mm

difference of 11mm...

I'll survive~ :D

i used the following formula:

18" = 457.2mm
265*0.35 = 92.75mm
diameter = 457.2 + 92.75 = 549.95mm

radius = 549.95mm/2 = 274.98mm

circ = 2 * pi * radius = 2(3.14) *274.98mm = 1727.71mm
Does anyone know if the 17X9's wil clear the calipers. I'm loooking to get rid of my rims very soon.
