I received a letter from my insurance co to call Mitsubishi about a recall.
After talking to the service manager, he said this needs to go up to the general manager. The recall was for the transfer case leak.
I explained to them I replaced the 18 spline TC years ago with a 25 spline TC but they still wanted to look at it. So I drive in and they look at it and said they see a drip and they said they can install a repair seal kit right away.
They must have been slow because they insisted I bring it in.
So I got a freebie today but all I wanted was the recall off my insurance files.
Leaking seals and under filled TCs was the reason for the recall years ago. Without sufficient lubricant the TC can over heat and lock up. Should you be doing 70 mph at that given moment that would not necessarily be a good thing.
Under filled TCs created a liability for Mitsubishi. I'm sure they sent out recall notices in the past. It seems the noticies never caught up with you. It's good you got the seal replaced and new gear oil.

Owned the car for 11 years and had Acuity Insurance for at least 10 years.
I check the TC gear oil at least once a year and change it often just to check for filings. I never attempted to call Mitsubishi about the transfer case recall because a lot of people seem to have trouble getting it done. Service manager was very good and hasn't seen a VR-4 for quite a while. An old member that had one of the first cars in the 10's used to take his car here. I think he was a doctor but I can't remember his name. I saw his white car there once while getting parts.
Glad its fixed but now the AEM digital boost gauge stopped registering. It just shows two red lines.
