Default Forged crank sources?

What are all of the other vehicles we can source a forged crankshaft from? I've heard the 2000+ Eclipse and Galant 3.0 engines are forged. What about the 2000+ Dodge Stratus and Chrysler Sebring, are they cast? Crankshafts are $50 at the pull-a-part about an hour away from me. They currently show 7 2000-2003 Galants in stock, but I have to go look to see if they are the 3.0 or not. They also show several Stratus and Sebrings in stock. No Eclipses though. Since it's going to be a lot of work to pull a crankshaft, is there anything else worth getting? Complete engines are $250, it would probably be easier to just grab the whole engine and pull the crank at home.

What about the parts store crankshaft kits? Are they all welded up junk not worth trusting? Looks like they tend to be around $350 with bearings.

Usually you can find a good 2000-2003 eclipse GT 3.0 SOHC Forged crank on Ebay every now and then for $100-150.

Check with donnie. I believe he's got a list of them all.

Hmm, in trying to research interchangeable cranks I come up with different Mitsubishi part numbers for what I was under the impression where interchangeable. MD357487 (replaces MD369555) is listed for 00-04 Eclipse, 99-03 Galant, and 02-03 Montero Sport. MD318150 is listed for 91-99 3000GT and 92-96 Diamante. Since there are different Mitsubishi part numbers, it seems there must be something different about the cranks used in these different vehicles, but I have no idea what. Could be cast vs forged, could be different balance, who knows?

The newer cranks were an attempt at making them closer to a full counterweight design.

Well, I spent my day at the pull-a-part today looking for a forged crank. They had one 2000 eclipse in stock, but it was a 4 cyl. They had 15 Galants in stock and not a single one had the 3.0. They had like 30 Hyundai sonatas in stock and only one of those was a 3.0. I ended up spending about an hour pulling the oil pan on that one only to find out it had a cast crank. So the day was a bust and I still need a forged crank.

I'll look thru my selection and see if I have a workable forged crankshaft.

Is the newer style MD357487 (MD369555) a direct drop in to our engines or would it require re-balancing?

It seems our MD318150 is discontinued and the remaining sources are wanting $1000 plus for the remaining new stock. However, the MD357487 seems to still be available at around $400 for a brand new crank. If it is a direct drop in, that seems like a much better deal unless there is additional work required to make it useable.
