Default squirrel feet

or sixteen.

they are super cute. found them in the lava rock in front of the house. and luckily because yesterday i saw a hawk standing right where i found them. ripping apart a crow's guts.

anywho, we took the chillest one inside to see what they'd like to eat.

and, they are actually rabbits.

I would almost speculate that they are not weened yet... start doing some research or it will die. Might need to get some formula and an eye dropper.

yeah, i'm not sure what their deal is yet. they have been eating grass, chopped up bananas, apples, and i'm not sure if they're going for the grapes. they also drink water out of a little cup.

but yeah, i'd say that 70 percent of the people that we've spoken to about them have had rabbits die on them.

i think they might be good away from the bottle. they all eat. but, i haven't noticed sh*t in the box. so.. hmm maybe they're not eating enough.

Spoke to someone whose saved a few animals in their time.

1. The mother will not take it/them back due to unfamiliar scent, the mother rabbit (Common cotton tail) will leave the nest during the day and will return to feed the young at night.

2. The wild rabbit weans pretty early so they will begin to eat solid foods sooner. Size isn't the best thing to look at when determining if an animal is weaning age because it can be misleading.

3. Feed them what they would find in the normal environment, not sure where you are at but if you got bananas growing outside (Which would be awesome) by all means, but in most cases hay/grass, leafy vegetables, carrots, cucumbers, etc. If they arent drinking provide them with vegetables high in h2o or hold hay/grass under running water to provide hydration that way.

4. as mentioned above you got to stimulate them into going to the bathroom. Recommend using a cotton swab and warm water and wipe/clean that area.

5. Survival rate is very low because they are very easily stressed, which is why they dont do to well. In most cases it is recommended to leave the nest alone even though it looks un-protected.

I tried searching for squirrel feet but it looks like the common eastern cotton tail.

Yeah it's true about the warm water rub... had a room mate that had baby raccoons after hurricane wilma went through Florida. They were probably about a week old. Constant 2 hr rotation of feeding and wiping their ass.

I found 2 before and one survived until it was large enough to release. Even saw it 2 weeks after I released it.

One reason they die is because they don't get a certain bacteria in their stomache to help digest food that they get from eating their moms poop. Here is a link to info on it: Rabbits: The Mystery of Poop

Goodluck!
