Wouldn't it have been simpler and smarter to have the pipe run off a normal intake/tb to turbo? Looks weird n stuff running all the way over the top.

I have to agree with this. What was the point in running the intake manifold from the left side (driverside if its a us spec car). If the intake manifold was facing the opposite side it would be a really short pipe.

I'm still a bit lost; is there any type of benefit from this layout?

I doubt a stock hood will fit.

He did this so he could start and drive it, it is not permanent, if it is then it is going to be a full drag car as anything else it will heatsoak.
