Default Which DSLR is right for me

So, I've done some research, but I'm at the point now where I feel like I'm going in circles on what I'm looking for. I know we have many talented professional photographers on 3si, so I thought I'd ask, which DSLR is right for me?

I've been looking at the Nikon D5100 and D3200, and the Canon EOS rebel t3i

I'm new to dslr's but I've taken a few classes on photography and would like to get more into it. I hope to use it for portraits, macros, landscapes, as well as action shots are pretty important. Video not as important, but still want to have it as an option just not a main focus. With this in mind what sort of lenses should I be looking at/ considering?

Any advice or links to good reads to learn more are welcome, thanks!

Get the Canon. They have the best color. If you plan on doing a LOT of flash images, then get the Nikon. Canon's flash system sucks.

The rebel is more than enough for most people. While I have made my living from photography all the things I did were easily done with the rebel but I appreciated some of the options on the more expensive bodies.

Make sure you get some decent memory cards to go with it.

Both make great cameras. I myself went the Canon way and love it. The body is not nearly as important as the glass you will buy. Put your money there.

Personally I have Canon and love it. No expert, but can tell you that whichever you pick is a big decision. Once you start investing in lenses you will not want to switch. Usually both brands have similar lens choices.

I own a Canon T3i and am pretty happy with it. With the introduction of the T4i, there's been some great deals to be had on the previous generations. It's perfect as a starter DSLR, and quality enough to keep around if you become even more serious about photography down the road.

Cannon seems to be the preferred dslr so far haha. I'm thinking of getting one Black Friday, any better suggestion? And what about lenses??

You should spend some time on a digital photography forum and look at sample images. I think I belong to dpreview.com but there are probably some better ones out there. You might see a better basis of comparison there.

I have shot a Canon, a Rebel XTi, for years, but I've outgrown it and don't even want to shoot with it any more. So I'd suggest looking at (1) how the unprocessed images look to you with a variety of lenses, and (2) the quality of the body and how long it might take you to outgrow it.

To bring up a dead thread. I work in TV for the most part on set, Cameras are Cannon 5d MK2 and Mk3's I have a MK2 that I fly on a RC multirotor I love it.

Now with that said in July I will own this.

For the price amazing. I am also looking at the 4k shooting Black Magic but that will just add to my work package.

I know its more of a video camera. But the image is so good because you can shoot in RAW. Just pull a frame you like. You would have all the room for color correction you would ever need.
