I am not sure something is horribly wrong, he barely speaks English, I wrote him weeks ago and never heard back from him. Call him, he does answer the phone.

I know that, i'm talking about the second guy.. Charles, appears to be a small time car dealer working from his home (most of the cars he has ads out for are photographed in front of his apartment office like the spyder was) I did call, did not receive a return call.
edit: his ad also said the car had NO mechanical problems (we already know from the original seller that the top is inoperative) I would bet good money that there are many other problems as well. Thats what I meant by horribly wrong.
I did not read anything about the top being broken other than it needs help on the way up. A friend of mine checked it out and the top has issues but goes up and down just not perfectly. Another guy here drove it and says engine is good, just needs transmission
fixed/replaced. The original owner has not been contacted. I can also say it was not for lack of trying. The guy may have been intimidated by your rugged display of knowledge.

don't be offended by this, but i take issue with your comments. Maybe you didn't mean them in a condescending way but it comes across that way.
the top needing help up and down is a MAJOR problem on these cars ("NO MECHANICAL PROBLEMS" is therefor a lie). The trunk sensor alone is over 1k. Have you priced the hydraulic unit? Also, needing a transmission is a big problem. My comments are about the SECOND seller... a car DEALER. Not some poor sap who can't speak the language. "engine is good" doesn't mean much to me. Was compression checked? valve spring length/tension. I don't care if I intimidate a car DEALER about a car I planned to drop money on. We are talking about 2 different sellers. Not sure what a "rugged display of knowledge" is. I have hard earned knowledge on these cars from mitsu and ASC also.. would be a shame to toss it out so somebody else can pass a ragged out car off on me.
as far as original owner contacted... i don't care about the original owner, i care about the dealer who posted the ad when I saw it. He chose not to respond, therefore I returned my check to the bank. No problem for me.
I really was not trying to offend you, but most dealers don't know a lot about the cars they sell. They would certainly not want to deal with a mitsu guru and was probably second guessing his claim that is was mechanically sound. The car is $5500. which is really cheap for a spyder, if I worked on cars I would buy it. The mileage alone is enough to scare most people away. I see your point about the top being a mechanical issue, but most people think engine. I really was not aware that this is not the original selling dealer that my friend went to when she drove it and looked at the top for me. That was also a dealer so if it's the same guy, he wasn't intentionally hiding anything and sold mostly big trucks she said. I really meant it, he was probably intimidated by your background. The wording you used was rugged in a guy sort of way, nothing at all like what a woman would say to him, that was coming with money. If I had your tech expertise, I would drive 2 1/2 hours and buy the car.
So yes, I meant it, but not really in the way that you understood. I maybe grumpy about this car since I have talked myself out of it.

You should never feel grumpy about talking yourself out of a car purchase. Most of the time it is usually the correct decision. It is those few that got away per se that haunt you for years in the future, especially after you see the prices skyrocket and you know you walked away from something as nice or better than the high priced collectibles.
I have several regrets... a hemi challenger for 1200.00 (it was a convertible too) a ram air IV 70 GTO convertible for 2600.00, a 65 shelby gt350 for 1200, and a 71 Buick GSX 455 for 1500. Also regret walking away from a complete 426 Hemi motor for 600.00....damn they cost 12000 now.
Not many people have the room and funds available at the time a good deal presents itself. Right now I'm kind of waiting for the newer shelby's to depreciate enough to get one at a decent price, or one of the SRT8 challengers, or even a new z28 if they build one. We didn't think the 03/04 cobras would drop in price as much as they did this year, but it just goes to show that all performance cars will eventually drop in price far enough to get one if you wait long enough. (thankfully the 04 cobras are still holding their street value at around 17k with reasonably low miles)

I hear you. Saw a Cobra-R (2000? not sure if that was one of the years) still in the dealer wrap with 17 miles on it a year or two ago. They wanted 14k iirc. 03 cobra depreciated that sucker like enron stock.
