Come on...my car had 3 good rims and a donut and i still made it. I was going on the hope that someone would come through with a spare pair/set of wheels that i could use for the weekend and Scott made it happen.
Here's the scoop fellas. About a month ago Mark and I were looking at the sign ups and saw basically 1 person from H-Town (Sean) that was a strong maybe. We pretty much decided then/there that if there wasn't a decent H-Town presence this year that it probably wouldn't be in H-Town next year.
You've got to understand that as organizers we need to put it where we feel the greatest number of attendees will be but, we must also consider the tracks/dyno available. We know that if we move it to H-Town next year that the attendance will be down. By keeping it in DFW we are pretty sure we can get atleast 25 - 30 people to show up. If we go to H-Town i'd be surprised to see 15 - 18 show. We want to make sure we include as many people as possible but, we also don't want to plan an event to have 10 people show up. That's kinda a waste of our time.
Anyways, it was my idea (I ran it by Mark at the dyno day) that we kill the dyno for next year. We just aren't getting the participation that we thought we would. It is a waste of the dyno operators time and it makes us look stupid when we say 15 - 20 people will be there and only 8 show up. Contrary to popular belief, the dyno operators are there to make money. When we say we will have x number of people and only y show up it is a waste of their time and makes us look/feel stupid. Hell, i did 2 sets of pulls and i believe we only had 10 sets total this year.
[soapbox]
For those of you scratching your head thinking " who the hell is this guy, he's not Mark or Jan" well, you're correct. You may not know it but Mark, myself and Jan are the ones that plan these gatherings out. I kinda played the silent roll this year because i don't live in the area. [/soapbox]
Anyways, we have to do what is best for the gathering and it's attendees. We feel that we can have the best time/turnout in DFW next year. That does not mean it will stay in DFW the following years, only time will tell !

So by having it in DFW year after year you can gaurantee a higher attendance, mainly due to all the people who *live in the area*? Why not just make it a DFW meet then?
Yeah so if there was a meet in Houston half the DFW guys wouldn't show up? What, cause of the drive? We've been driving every year. Meh, whatever.
From the meets that we've been to the houston one was definetly the best one.

I dont think that there will be a very good showing next year though. I mean the NG is so close and it will cost a pretty good chunk of change to go to that for 4 days. So i hope i am wrong but i dont think the Gathering will be very large next year due to that fact alone.

I was thinking along the same lines
It's cool though, I know that the planning and organizing takes up a tremendous amount of time, and I imagine some money as well, so I can't complain (legitimately anyway, haha).
The last couple years they've just always fallen at a time that I've been either really busy with things or I just didn't have the finances to do it. I'm hoping next year will be different though and that I'll be able to make, regardless of where it's at.
