Well horrible news. Last night the oil pressure dropped after a longish drive. On the way home I was trying to baby it but there it was.... A knock. It sounds like really light rod knock or semi loud lifter tick. Im not very happy to say the least....

Bad thing... Red 3kgt is dead still, alltrac needs its engine pulled, I have already had my fathers car for two weeks and I drive a long ways for work. Meaning I dont have a daily driver. Everything is Fing broke.

Good News... I can pull the engine in the alltrac and put it back together in a few days sense I know what im doing in it. I also have an extra low mileage JDM engine for the VR4 in my garage. Its a first gen though. Is there a difference between the blocks?? I know the heads are different but can I mate the two?

Also... I have to get rid of both the red SL and the 91 vr4 parts car to make room. I cant have this many dead cars in my way. Price has been dropped supper low just to get them out of here. 4 grand takes it all.

I hope this isn't the start of another bad trend. I remember not to long ago everybodys cars where getting totalled. Now Engines trashed. Too bad you had to join both parties.

Oil pressure dropped to what?

I don't mean to rub salt in the wounds, but this could be an object lesson to others (Lord knows my rebuilds have yielded many object lessons)

First lesson, if you like your engine, get a real oil pressure gauge, the stock one is crap. (you don't even need a built engine, any set-up can benefit from a real oil pressure gauge)

Second lesson, dropping oil pressure is NEVER good, It could be a bearing going out, it could be a bad oil pump, or it could be you are losing oil someplace (thats what happened after this last rebuild when I blew off the line to the oil filter bracket). Babying it may get you home, but usually, it only makes things worse. The best thing to do is shut it down, and call a tow truck (or DuTTch) , and hope you didn't mess anything up.

Sorry to hear, hope it turns out to be not as bad as you think.

At first it dropped one mark below what it usually was. Idle was 2 clicks above the lowest (1k rpm) and driving was around three clicks below the mid line. Thats when I started to head home. (next time I will not try to get it home...)

Then all of a sudden it dropped down to two or three clicks above the lowest line while driving. Then at idle it dropped all the way down to the lowest line. which was at the same time the very light knock started.

Im gonna go crazy....

Will anyone be out around springtown to come listen to it and make sure its rod knock?? Last time I swapped turbos it turned out to just be that the rear intake hose had came off..... I tend to jump to the worst case first.

At warm idle, does the oil light come on? If not, then you MIGHT still be ok. This same thing happened to me (without the knock bit) a couple days ago, and it turned out to be the harness coming off of the oil pressure sending unit by the driver's side axle. This happens regularly with older wiring harnesses. Check your connection on that thing, clean it all up, see if that does anything.

Otherwise, if that red oil light DID come on, well then... yeah... I'm sorry man.

When the oil light comes on it is too late

Invest in a real oil pressure gauge! It is one of the most safety conscious things you can do for your engine... that and a real boost gauge.(most people get a real boost gauge, cause they like to brag about how much boost they are pushing, saying you have 20psi oil pressure at idle just doesn't sound as impressive)
