Lets be honest, I know enough about most engines to get myself out of trouble. Most.
However, A/C is something I never learned/got into. Why would I? One not a fan of A/C, I'm a windows/top down kinda guy. And Massachusetts rarely gets the heat needed for me to use the A/C...
Anyway, awhile back I knew I had a leak somewhere in the system, so I bought one of those 12a to 134 conversion kits in hopes the valves were the issue and call it a day. Yeah, that works for about 2 weeks at a time.
Now I get that red dot on my climate control. I haven't tried putting anything in in over a year tho.
So a friend of a friend fixes A/C. First thing hes gonna do is flush the system, which I never did because I didn't have the equipment necessary. Then hes going to fill it with freon and leak detector and have me drive it acouple days and bring it back.
One question that perplexes me that he asked is, does it have a dryer. I have no idea. I thought if you have A/C you have a evaporator and a dryer. He asks this right after asking what year my car is.
So that my question to you, does a '94 VR4 with a stock A/C system have a dryer?

Yes. Receiver/drier is at the driver front corner of the engine bay. It has the high/low pressure sensor and sight glass on the top of it. It's a silver canister, but the majority of it is recessed into the fender area, so you only see the top of it from the engine bay.

Ofcourse it does. I've never heard of an ac system with out one. Also called an accumulator. Should be located along the drivers side fender towards the radiator side of the engine bay. You will notice 2 small alluminum solid lines going to it. If you have FMIC it's really in the way of the pipes.

As far as trusting him, well, he works on base at the auto shop. Actually, another guy who was going to recharge the system, told me to talk to the guy. Said he'd be cheaper and could flush the system, where they couldn't.
The other reason I can't really go wrong is he doesn't want any money until we know whats wrong. So he'll replace the valves that I know are bad, recharge with freon and leak detector stuff and we'll go from there.
i have an A/C problem too if anyone wants to help. A/C worked fine before my car was down for a month due to working on transmission, now all A/C does is blow air, not hot, or cold, but heater works, when i turn on A/C i get this loud fast ticking coming from the compressor what do i do?

Clutch not engaging? You may want to make your own thread about this, as this one has been answered and will get less traffic.
Good luck!

Might wanna ask someone from North Carolina, or take your car to 3SX for service. None of us are going to drive that far to work on your A/C unless you are planning a trip to Texas, from the sound of your problem, your system is really low on refrigerant, and possibly has a slow leak.
