I was born and raised in Austin, a rare breed these days. Let me be the first to tell you, nothing better.

This place has it all.

The downtown scene is amazing.

The live music is amazing.

The food is great.

The ladies are incredible.

Everyone is kind.

Lake Travis/Devil's cove or Cypress Cove or Lake Austin

I rule.

I can show you around town. I do it ALL the time for people.

I love austin and lived there for 17-18 years but its just too crowded these days. i'ts a great place to live but the cost of living IS going up and traffic is pretty bad. hell i remember when 183 was just a 2 lanes going each way and there was a giant patch of grass between the two for a freeway that was starting to be built.

Anyway its a great place if you can get past the small city turning into a huge crowded big city thing. excellent places for food and fun as speedtweaker said.

BTW i was paying 700 for a 1 bedroom off parmer and 620 but after being there for a 7-8 month lease they wanted almost 130 dollars more if i was going to sign a longer lease with them (mind you it was on the 3rd floor) The apartment complex was actually very nice and not ghetto or in a ghetto area.

i hate to say it but slowly austin is turning into houston i had to get out and have a change of scenery so i moved to albuquerque for a job with BMW. hopefully ill end up back in austin in a couple years though.

Bottom line if big crowded city doesn't bother you then go for it. its an excellent place to live and you WONT regret moving there.

I agree. The traffic is TERRIBLE. I drive from Cedar Park to Bee Caves every morning and this alone takes over an hour. This is what MapQuest says.

Estimated Time: 26 minutes Estimated Distance: 20.51 miles

It's even worse on the way home. Some pockets of Austin you just can't avoid. 360 isn't getting any bigger and makes for a TERRIBLE bottleneck.

I've never noticed that guy! That pictures is a couple years old I think.

If you move down here, I'd be happy to show you around as well. It's just an all around great place to live, but it's a lot different from the small town feel you have up there in Ft Hood.

If you start pricing apartments, you'll find good deals all over the place, but don't expect it to be as low as ft hood unless you sacrafice comfortable living and safety.

Good luck!!! Keep us posted. If you wanted to come down for one weekend, I'm sure we could all get together and show you around.
