Ok so tomorrow around 1 I'm going to arlington to look at a vr4 that wasn't running well soon after a complete engine rebuild, the fuel was cutting out. The owner thought it was the fuel pump and bought and installed a walbro 255, but it wouldn't start after so he bought a hotwire kit, that didn't work, he ran a wire straight from the battery to the fuel pump and the pump didn't even come on.
So I'm going to look at it tomorrow at 1 like I said and was wondering if anyone that knows enough about them or think they can diagnose it would be able to come there and look at it with me?
I have been talking to member VR3.9 and he said it could be the ecu, if no one can help me, can you give me an exact list of what to check and look for?
He has the original pump, and we can put it back in if the walbro one is bad.
here's a link to how the stock fuel pump is wired and 2 different types of hot wiring. should give you enough info to at least see if things are wired correctly. If you have a volt meter check the connection on the fuel pump at the pins listed on the schematic and confirm that 12 volts is getting to the fuel pump. I really doubt the new fuel pump is bad. He probably had to splice it down in the fuel pump assembly and did it wrong. RDR 3000GT/Stealth Fuel Pump Rewiring

Thanks again Mike, you've been extremely helpful. I think I have a volt meter at work I could borrow too.
I'd test for continuity across the fuel pump wires, make sure there isn't an open circuit on the fuel pump assembly. If there is an open circuit, your gonna have to pull the bulkhead and figure out why, be it a bad pump, or screwed up wiring job.
After you've narrowed down that everything is kosher at the bulkhead, Verify that the wire running from the front to the rear of the car for the fuel pump is still good, and isn't shorted to ground. This can be done by testing for continuity between the fuel pump 12V+ wire at the bulkhead, and the black test lead on the passenger strut tower. Make sure it isn't shorted to ground.
If those check out, the next two things on the list are the fuel pump relay, and fuel pump resistor. Both approx under the engine bay fuse box. If you can't find an issue here, check the MFI Relay on the passenger side of the center console.
Now just a word on function, The fuel pump only turns on when the starter is engaged, or the engine is above a specified RPM. So, a good way to test for issues, without needlessly spinning the engine, is to unplug the starter at its connector by the air filter, this will allow you to place the key into the start position, and activate the pump via its normal circuit. The backup method of activation is to run 12V+ to the black test connector under the hood by the passenger strut tower.

No one available tomorrow around 1-3 to come out and lend a hand? I understand with work that is impossible. My Dad and me are taking off work for a few hours to go see what we can do.
I really want to trade this guy, he needs the help, but I can't trade my working car for one that will cost me over a grand to get running cause I'm trying to go to college this semester.
