Which could very well happen. An untested car with great tech might be taken down to what can be sold...the tech. They didn't show any performance pieces on the car itself, just the cool LED's and robocop styling.
I can tell you this, I'm worked with cops before on certain things and everytime they'd offer 'if you ever need anything..' I ask to take the car for a drive, lights and siren, whole deal. Each time they were pigs. One time I complained to the officer how sluggish and unresponsive the car was. He thought I was kidding. I told him, let me show you why you'd never catch me. So, behind a Wal-Mart, I showed him the short term capabilities of the VR4. Needless to say he was impressed. This was back when she was pretty much stock (and had a good tune, lol).
So yes, I def see older cars getting retro fitted with the better tech. Think of the revenue the city/state would get. Not to mention the safety. No more of the cop having to look down and type in or call in a plate. All he has to do is drive. I wanna be a cop now...lol
Some states have the cars insurance tied to the registration, like Massachusetts. But there are always dodgers. They get insurance for a month to register the car and then dump it. In Mass, the insurance companies electronically alert the registry when someone cancels thier insurance. This system would nail them.
How many people here have been hit by someone uninsured? I'm sure you'd appreciate something like this. Less offenders, less uninsured motorists, hell, maybe lower insurance?
