Default Good Paint Jobs?

Anyone know anyone in the area that's good at doing paint jobs, for non retarded prices?

Basically, I'm looking to take the stealth, as it is pearl white, and turn it bright orange.

It has a couple small dings in the rear, and two almost unsee-able dings on the left/right side. The worst is the front, near the license plate, has some small rust spots where the screws are, someone put too long of screws on.. And the metal part is bent backwards, so there is a bit of wear on the front bumper.

Between body work, and repainting the car, the only quote I've gotten so far is $4000... Which is a bit insane, imo. They said about $1000 on the paint, which, I can see, I guess. But $3000 in painting labor? It's not like the car is 50% rust... It's not even 1% rust.

first off a 4000 quote if CHEAP to do a color change, considering that it is a full enginebay, door jams, trunk hatch. to do it right includes taking off the front and rear bumpers/lights/hood/doors/rear hatch/ side mirrors/ sail panels/ side skirts and a bunch of other shit. your looking at about 2 weeks in labor for a great job. or 1 week for a decent job

4000 seems expensive for a little side shop. Sure, they have to wet sand and junk, but removing body parts? Really? I can do it in less than 5 minutes. Hell, I'll tell them I'll do it and see if they knock a grand off the labor. -_-

I told them not to do the engine bay, except for the underside of the hood.

Why would they be removing all that stuff, honestly? I understand the hatch and the doors.. But the lights? Really?

I haven't met a single person besides you that hasn't said that quote is ridiculous, considering I'm not asking for like, a tricoat paint or anything, and again, there's extremely little rust, and door dings smaller than a dime.

ok here goes, behind all of the body panels are colored pieces, behind the lights in the rear are all body colored supports, behind the lights in the front are body colored buckets, in back of the sails is a body colored piece. for 4k you will most likely just get a shop to tape off the black trim/wheels take off hatch and doors then DA the car/prime/paint. getting the rear bumper off requires taking every trunk panel off/lights center panel and the sails you have to take apart half the interior to get them out.
to say you can remove any body panel in 5 min is silly talk, i'd like to see you remove a body panel in 5 min with all the bolts and clips snapping. do some research before hand, i'm willing to bet the people you talked to didn't know jack shit about body work or paint. you want a cheap paint job take apart the entire car yourself, prep and do all the body work, buy all the paint then take it to a shop to prime/paint/wetsand/polish and your still looking at 1-1.5 in paint and prep supplies + 1.5k-2k for a Primo paint job
also if your not gonna paint the engine bay with a white car it is gonna look pretty shitty everytime you pop the hood. when i did the color change on my sti i kept the door jams black as it matches, but orange with a white engine bay??

I was going to do the engine bay flat black, while having the outside edges(the actual edges of the fender) orange. I think it would look nice.

And also, if you can't unscrew a set of 6 screws in 5 minutes, I'm sorry. But I can remove my fender pretty damn fast.

Granted, that's the fender. I assumed the rear bumper was going to be the biggest PITA. But again, I'd be willing to undo it if they're really charging so much because of removing all the panels. A two day project with leisure time would save me a grand? I'm game.

I honestly didn't expect a quote of $4,000 on a relatively simple paint job.

$4,000 sounds about right. Especially for a color change.

By the way, I've always wanted to get my car repainted a really nice pearl orange.

comeon guy removing a fender is alot more than 6 screws, you have to remove the front headlights, front bumper, sideskirt, wheelwell clips and weather stripping inside the door all of which take more than five min to do

i HIGHLY doubt that you could take apart the entire car and prep for paint and do body work in two days, where are you getting all these time frames from??

if you want a simple paint job just go to macco or earl schives and pay the $500

I think you need smaller wrenches if you can't remove the fender without pulling the bumper, man.. It's simple. It really is a couple screws and popout pins to pull the fender and the skirt that goes with it. Yeah, you have to get it away from the side skirt, which again, isn't difficult.

Trust me, I've swapped my driver side fender. =/

I never said I was going to do the body work and prep it for paint in two days. I said strip the car.

I'm not going to cheap out, I want the car to last. $4,000 was just, a lot more then expected for a paint job, considering I'm not asking for anything overly difficult on the paint job.

$4,000 is spot on. You'll more than likely get the price knocked down greatly if you do all the prep work, and do it right. It's surprisingly more work than you're thinking though. Talk to the paint shop and find out what you need to do to have them just shoot it, no bodywork and prep.

I agree with these guys. Anybody work, done by anyone other than the shop. Voids the warranty on the paint work done at the shop here. Reason being is we don't no what products were used, if they're compatible with the paint were using or if they applied it in the correct manner. So 4K for a complete color change is pretty good I must say.
