I drive a 1991 VR4 and am looking to have the 60k service done on it. I live in Northern CT and would be willing to drive to central CT or Western MA to have it done. Does anyone know or recommend a place for this? I called the Mitsubishi dealership in Vernon and the mechanic I spoke with didn't seem to bright, and would prefer only going there if nothing else pops up.
Thanks |

most dealerships dont know shit about our cars. i went to a mitsu dealer and they told me that they couldnt work on my car cause its a dodge. then i went to a dodge dealer and they told me that a mitsu dealer could only work on it cause its a mitsu engine and everything and just the body is dodge. so now i just go to ESP in Sterling, MA. they know this car in and out and the owner has a real nice one. thats the place that i would recommend

PM user *GT (Tim Dolan). A 60K isn't exactly rocket science, but I've seen a little too much shoddy work out of ESP: Subpar tuning, careless installs, and poorly designed custom work.
Certainly, some of this comes from owners demanding cheap prices, or owners that do not understand and end up damaging their cars. And I've seen some ESP cars that run fine and do not have problems. However, in the past year I have also seen Tim personally fix two cars that came out of ESP and blew engines shortly thereafter. Tim is in Stow, MA, if you're willing to drive that far. Clint

If you want to just take it to a dealership go to County Line Mitsubishi. I Bought my first 3s there and I used to see a few VR4's in for service. It's in watertown, CT

Thats where I got my 60k done. They finished it in a day and it was about $850. Everything looks fine, and runs fine.

In CT I would recommend Pruven Performance in Milford but that's probably too far. But in MA you have to look at ESP Enhanced Street Performance, Inc.
in Sterling, a 3Si specialist.

I had my SOHC's 60k service done at the Mitsu dealership in Vernon last year right around this time. Quoted at $1250, ended up costing over $1500. It took them almost a week to get the car back to me, then a couple days later I noticed a puddle of oil on my garage floor. They had replaced the gaskets but forgot to tighten the bolts. It took another couple of days to fix that. I had been taking my car there pretty much as long as they have been open with no complaints, but now I am trying out other places closer to me.

I'd still recommend ESP for something like a 60k service. They did my car when I first bought it, and did a great job. Granted, it wasn't cheap but you get what you pay for. Tell them that you want it done right- all the wear items replaced, and the rest of the car inspected and anything else they find fixed- and I think you'll be fine.
Please don't take it to a dealer. Most dealers will not do everything that should be done for the 60k; even if they do the work correctly, they generally do not do things like all the pulleys, the water pump, plug wires, unless you ask. And then, it's not going to cost any less than what you'd get someplace like ESP. |

yea they did my car when i bought it too... they did above and beyond what i asked and checked everything out, even shit that wasnt included in the 60k. but if clint says hes seen shady work, and that tim has had to fix cars im going to be thinking twice from going there again... time to find a new shop till i get mine up and running in a few years(graduated from my Advanced Automotive Associates degree and my High Performace Associates degree and now im working on my Bachelor's in Business Managment)
