Default Insuring a car in FL without actually living in FL

Hey guys!

So heres my dilema:

In the process of selling my 91' SL and picking up a VR4 in Virginia. Ill have it at home for December and when I come back to school in january I will have it with me. My issue is, insurance in MD on a VR4....under my DADS POLICY....is $2200 every 6 months.

However, insurance in FL is only about $1400 every 6 months.....much more manageable. My issue is, what does it take to register the car in FL.......can I do it legally, since I reside here more than 6 months a year? What will I need?

Do I even need to register the car here to have insurance here?

Im just a bit confused on Florida law and how this all works out. Also, if I do register it in FL....6.5% sales tax on bluebook or receipt of sale?

Thanks for the help!

Very Serously doubt it would be legal, might fall under insurance fraud.

The biggest give away that might not make it possible is where you claim residency and where you are trying to insure at time of residency.

Talk to an insurance lawyer, might have a free consultation on it.

You could try posting this in chatter, YOU WILL GET MORE PEOPLE TO LOOK AT IT

Oh, and I was kinda unclear. I do go to school in FL....for 8-9 months out of the year. I will have a house down here next fall.......but for the meantime I live on campus. Does that count?

I am fairly certain living in on campus housing is not considered a "permanent address"

If i am not mistaken Permanent residence is the intent to live there, not just go to school then leave
