Hey guys guess what. I called the Zebulon Police Department today to check on the status of my ticket I got there on July 24. First off let me explain what happened. I was traveling home from Atlanta to my parents house in Thomaston in the middle of the night (11:15pm). I'm going down Hwy 19 for miles. This is a major 5 lane with virtually no traffic this time of night, cuz I'm in the middle of nowhere. I decide to pick up the pace a little since it was late and I was travelling so far. Well, right in the middle of nowhere on this wide open 5 lane highway is a little town called Zebulon. It's basicallly just a town square and a courthouse right in the middle of the divided highway. Only 2 stoplights. I always know to slow down there because I hear they are bad about speed trapping. Well, in this particular instance it was late and I had been driving for a while, so my attention was less than perfect. I was doing 65 in a 55, as soon as I hit the town it drops to 45 and guess who's sitting right on the other side of that sign. Old PORKY! I knew he got me so I politely pulled over. He informed me that I was not doing 65 but rather 70... in a 45. I'm thinking ok that's way over the speed limit but I'm ok, it's a major highway and there is no traffic. Surely they will be lenient with me since this is my first ticket EVER! Well, I call up there today to ask how much the ticket was.... Anyone want to guess? $356!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Holy shit are you kidding me?!?!?!?! I mean I had EVERYTHING working in my favor for a lenient penalty and they still got me for $356. It's not like I was doing 70 in a 45 through a neighborhood or something. It's a damned highway!! It's all commercial property and at 11:15pm it is EMPTY! I wasn't driving wrecklessly or out of control. If you could see this stretch of highway you would understand that 70mph isn't dangerous at ALL! I even told the officer how far I was travelling and that my guage honestly read 65mph hoping he would understand. Hell no. I understand I broke the law and all and I don't have any problem with getting penalized, but damn! I just wasn't paying attention. I'm sure it happens to everyone when they drive, even the damned officer who wrote the ticket. Does he, or I, deserve to pay $356 for it? NO! This kind of thing makes me wonder why EVERYONE doesn't run from the police. If I knew how heavy the fine was going to be and I had been in my car instead of the pickup, I'm pretty sure it would have crossed my mind not to make it so easy for him. I know that's a terrible thing to say and I would never encourage anyone to do that, but dammit I can't help thinking that fines like this only encourage that sort of thing. This is ridiculous, I'm done.

Sorry... Beem you can't go... but we'll have another mini-gathering at Bradley's soon. Can't wait to get my car back on the road... then... our next goal is to get the Hammus-Mobile back on the road. Any idea of what it's going to take and what it's going to cost to get your's back up, Beem? I would like to run against you at Track Day. |
