Interview was great, but now it's time to play the waiting game...
At the end the DM who interviewed me asked if I'm open to other opportunities since I only have 1yr of retail mgmt experience(they prefer 3-5), but I do have a 4yr degree when the education requirement is only HS or equivalent, so hopefully that'll put me over the top, right now feeling a bit of anxiety b/c my "fate" is in the hands of the division director who I have never met and is only going by what the DM says and whether I meet the "requirements" which for a manager in training position I think is kind of absurd to have 3-5yrs experience b/c different retail outfits have different mgmt practices and having 3-5yrs of mgmt at Jewel, Dominicks or Walmart doesn't necessarily translate to the mgmt skills needed for Aldi which has a 1yr training program starting with cashier training in week 1 and job shadowing up to 6 months before you're out on your own, so basically you learn EVERYTHING from the ground up. Also nervous b/c for the DM application I was told the same "2 weeks" and heard back in 2 days that I was not what they were looking for Either way, come July 1st if I have not heard anything I'm gonna have to sign up for the U of I alumni association career counseling(which should be free, I mean I already paid $10's of thousands for the sad excuse of an education that hasn't given me a leg up yet in the job search) which will atleast help me pinpoint what fields to look into which I would not only be suited for, but most importantly would enjoy working in.

update- DM who interviewed me got transferred and I had to re-do the 1st interview with his replacement which went well until I was pretty much told that I am not qualified for MIT, but can start out as cashier on fast-track to shift manager which is still 2 steps below MIT.... the funny thing is that this DM tried to tell me it was not due to my lack of managerial experience, but my lack of RETAIL experience... RFLMAO... I politely stated that my resume did not include the 4 summers of working at Home Depot as well as working a holiday season at The GAP as I wanted to put my most RECENT experience and the experience that shows that I have done managerial tasks in both an office and retail environment as well as owned my own business, but do have experience doing everything from pushing carts to driving a forklift to greeting customers to making sales to cashiering, etc, etc, etc.... long story short I went from getting "offered" a $12.60/hr a job to being told "I'll call you in 5-7 days to notify you IF we'll take the next step"....
anyways, just needed to get it off my chest, but I hate having to be back at step one and I thought having a college degree and a decent amt of experience should be worth atleast $15-20/hr if not more especially since my financial situation at the moment makes me unable to accept anything that's gonna pay less than $3k/month as that's about the total of my FIXED expenses(less the $1300/month I get in rent from my roommates) I also hate the whole corporate b.s. that getting A JOB involves 3-4 interviews and 3-4 weeks of playing the waiting game just to get AN OFFER all the while I am playing this waiting game the bills don't... |

yea I'm currently talking with a counselor, have had 3 meetings with her already, the problem is that I still don't have a set field to target as jobs in German translating in the Chicago area are few and far between, in fact the only one I found was with the German American Chamber of Commerce which probably pays $30k/yr MAX since it's an entry position for a non-profit company, to top it off the website even states:
"Information for applicants: Thank you very much for your application and interest in this position. Due to the high volume of applications we are receiving we are not able to answer each application personally. We are in the process of reviewing all incoming applications. If we find your skills meet our particular needs we will contact you." which pretty much means that they're filtering resumes by GPA which I leave off since mine was nothing to brag about ![]() |
