Good news... found battery... was sitting in the back of the garage, car started up after charging it overnight... now I gotta get it running properly...
Again, it's either ECU or IAC.... but first things first I gotta clean off the plugs... Anyone in the area got a 1st gen ECU they wanna swap out to test it? Still waiting to hear from Jeremy, but if anyone else can help I'd greatly appreciate it.... Also, might be in the market for a newer "tweaner" car something like a mid 90's SL 500 or 99-01 Volvo S60(my gf's dad just got an 01 w/ factory 19's for $8k and saw a few on cars.com for under $10k)... why I say "tweaner" is I need something newer now just in case the VR4 breaks down again, but of course ultimately wanna get the 911 which might be a lil' later down the road now that I might be buying a house soon(w/ my brother)

To start, Jamie, my condolences to you and your loved ones. Been there before myself and know what you are dealing with. Clint, condolences to you as well, always hard to lose a friend, especially like that. Besides the above situations, how is everyone doing? I turned the big 30 in June and im feeling the effects. Im fucking old, feel as old as OhioSpyderman, and im not getting any younger I hate realizing the truth I guess the good side is, Im definatley not as Ugly as Sanjay, and that right there will always keep things in perspective!!!! And if/when any of you make it out to Las Vegas, I hope you look me up, I'd love to see you guys out here. Hope the weather is treating you all well out there, as it was only 118 degrees today! Anyways, just thought I'd stop by and say hi to you all ok now someone make me laugh, real hard. Any good jokes anyone?

ok... so turns out it was "bad gas".... drove the car around for the heck of it today and after about 5-10 mins it started running smoothly again, still need to swap out the plugs for the NGK V Powers(that need to be cleaned btw), but then i'm good to go....
worst part is there's so much I want/need to do to this thing to get it back up to speed, obviously #1 is fix the passenger door lock so that it's no longer jimmy-rigged to pop open after the handle is pulled twice.... but other stuff that needs attention... 2nd and 5th synchro, carrier bearings, right front ball joint??(was told by a shop a LONG time ago that the boot was going bad, figured it was just a ploy to get more money... knock on wood, that's all it was), IAC motor??(idle sputters when in neutral and brake and/or clutch are depressed and car dies if AC is not on) and then there's my plethora of electrical gremlins, an excess draw or short I think might be the solution to all, as well as the idle problem that could also be a vacuum leak related issue... first off is the missing headunit which WILL be replaced by either my brother or his friend Scott, but then there's the ones I've been living with... the longest being the power mirrors which went out after the dealership "fixed" the short in the motor for the pop-up lights 6yrs ago, why fixed is in parenthesis is 'cause about a yr later the pop-up motor shorted out again and I know this since the lights would occasionally pop up if I disconnected the battery to reset the ECU or do some type of work on the car.... also along those lines I think the anti-theft system, which must've shorted out after the attempted break-in at U of I(see jimmy-rigged door handle)... finally on the electric front... after doing the steering rack the 2 main electrical components on the steering column... the horn and the cruise control both went out.... so yea... sounds like a LOT of work, but after all I've been through w/ this car, nothing's too much and well, it would just be a waste of time to not get it back up to speed.... and then way down the road of course... paint-job(which it is needing more and more every day), new seats(front passenger is still pretty good, driver... well, I've seen worse), full system(amp and speakers), and finally turbo upgrade and BBK.... |

Hello everyone, been trolling as usual. For anyone who is interested or knows someone who's looking for one, i'm putting the Talon up for sale. This is Damon's brothers old Talon. Basic info 1991 Talon Tsi AWD, stick, 180,000 miles. Some rust, I can provide pictures for anyone who wants them. Car has been extremely reliable for me, only had to replace a few things here and there. Looking for $1,200. Any less than that and i'll keep the car. Want to go old school, Road Runner, Charger or Cuda, need the space. Thanks in advance.

Hey remember we were supposed to keep that on the down low . Shit I was so fuckin drunk the night before, I torched the clutch on that grass and got the fucker that dirty. I can't believe I hopped in the car. It was Don Testosterone who talked me into it. Guys trying to show off like they can do donuts Anyway I have a tranny HOUSING left from an 18 spline but no internals. Also, I was in the NG07 area earlier today doing a delivery but I guess everyone was at the drags according to DaveSlow. Ah well tomorrow I'll be in Wisconsin so there's noway I'll be going that way again, unless my dispatcher wants to be an asshole and send me there, but if I do go there it'll be the evening, and I might stop by and Chill.

Question: Who knows welders well enough to give me some advice? I took a few classes with Cameron and his brother and I'd love to have one around the farm for repairs and eventually fabricate some stuff. Exhaust, intakes, etc. I'd rather go with a used unit and save some $$$ but don't know what brands/models to keep an eye out for. Would like MIG with the ability to go TIG later.
Options: Lincoln Precision TIG185 Miller Synchrowave 180 Last edited by Damon : 07-12-2007 at 04:27 PM. |
