Well, if you’re trying to separate two exhaust pipes, use a saws-all between the flanges to cut the bolts. Obviously this won’t work for removing the exhaust manifold.

Soak the crap out of it with BP.

I think I suck at the communication today.

I was able to get the downpipe off the car, that is not an issue. It is broken at the flex tube. Therefore, the flextube and the last 12 inches or so (including the O2 bung) are attached to the cat. The bolts that hold what is left to the cat are not going to budge. So, it appears my option is to move behind the cat about 6 inches, cut the cat out and weld in a new piece of pipe. That would get me a new flanged section for the cat to bolt to and the new cat would accomplish the new flange on the end towards the car.

That leaves me needing a cat of some sort (anyone got one lying around) and in need of someone with welding equipment (because once it is cut it will need to be rewelded). I can just run it up to an exhaust shop but I would rather give my hard earned money to a local lister.

Have you tried heating the nuts on the downpipe side of the cat until they are cherry red and then hitting them with a impact?

That's what usually works for me.

Steve, yeah, I gave that a shot too. I didnt want to keep too much heat there, this car has a ton of oil leaks and there is oil all under the under carriage, was a little concerned about fire. When I couldnt break them loose with heat I just bolted the old DP section back on and figured that it is going to have to be cut and rewelded.

Sears (and many Auto parts stores) sell nut splitters (shut up Andy ). They are cheep and work well. I’m assuming by your description that the cat you need is the main cat? I have a 3S pre-cat in my garage if you need that.

HA! Good call Cam, he would've been all over that one!
Sorry I couldn't make it out there to help... I was hoping we could do it in the morning as I had family stuff at noon. I'm up for the welding though, gimme a ring.

Yes kids, sitting in the garage at this very moment is a vintage "Ironman Ivan Stewart's Super Off Road" video game. 3 simultaneous players of off road action... it even has NAWSS baby! Don't know how many of you know this game, appreciate this game, or even know what the hell I'm talking about. Let me tell you though... it is FUN! Plus, you can drink heavily and drive like an a$$hole! Yes... now you too can be Sanjay!

Who's up for an "Off Road Tournament Mini-Gathering"???
WooooHoooo!!!
