Well i got some info on my car today. They got teh car to start today after it was sitting there for 2 days and when it started there was alot of white smok coming out and running very ruff. They did a compression test on the front bank and the #5, #3 cyl's were ok but cyl #1 had 0 commpression I'm just hopping its not the rings on the pistons cause if its just valves/head stuff its not gona be that bad. Tomarow they'll do a leak-down test on that cyl and see what we get.

No compression in one cylinder could be a few things. Did you ever change your Valve Stem Seals (VSS)?

are you sure it was really zero? try adding a few drops of oil into your bad cylinder. if compression goes way up, it's probably your ring. the oil helps it seal better if the ring is shot.

was it blowing oil or coolant? if it's really blowing oil, it could be lots of things.... my guess would be turbo, but it could be lots of things.

good luck man.

explain how valve stem seals can cause bad compression, they can casue oil burning but not coolant.

i assume his mechanic knows what hes doing so hopefully he knows the basic tests

Naw its not the turbo. A bad turbo wouldent cause the engine to flood/shut off, not start, and cause a cyl to have no commpresion. Also theres no oil in the intercooler pipes. I think its something in the heads cause i was gunning it pritty good on the highway (and hit the rev limiter in a gear) when the car just shut off.

Ludak, it sounds similar to what happened when I did a little highway run before rebuilding my engine. Had the center electrode on the spark plug come out of the insulator and get stuck under one of the exhaust valves, snapping a chunk of the valve off and exiting it out the exhaust into the pre-cat, no compression in the #1 cylinder, but I didn't have smoke out the exhaust. Have you checked the coolant? Head gasket maybe?

Busted VSS can cause a valve to snap and mess up the cylinder. This happened to cbatters six months ago.

But yes, that would cause black smoke, not white. I missed that. Must have been all the cough syrup I drank....all the statements of "...you just don't listen to me!" from every bad relationship are coming back to me. Must drink more Vicks 44 to stop the pain late at night- when the demons come.

Yeah, the leak test will give info on what it is...till then I'll pipe down.

Who is selling their 1995 red VR4 on Ebay? from Normal?

My buddy Gene is looking for one, but he's in California as frontman for the Faded. Someone has to fight The Man.
