Your capacitors inside the ECU are probably bad, leaking. Do a search on caps or capacitors. The caps are cheap to purchase but you need to be fluent with soddering to replace them yourself. Its a common problem on first gens.

Given the litany of what what I had said that I had done to trouble shoot this issue over on the chicago board, that was a very good call Jamie.

Unfortunately, its been nearly a year since I changed out my caps, so I don't even think of that any more when I talk about troubleshooting, that was the FIRST thing I tried. I even inspeced the board at a magnified solder station (one of the perks of working at Motorola), and there was no decernable PCB damage.

Long ago I resigned myself to the reality that the more I did to the damn thing, the worse it would idle, the least it could have done was waited until I had a few more mods under the hood before it started to idle like shit. Maybe I should have stopped with the same Mods as Ludak's mama (read his signature, then read mine), and not gone for more. But what fun would that have been??

As I said over on the other board, I have come to terms with it, yes it's an annoyance, but hey, thats the price of speed.

Thats because I have never posted about it before, at least not before yesterday.... I went through all the troubleshooting, and came up with squat. and it did get much worse recently, but I think I know what the problem is, there just ain't nothing I can do about it. (no, I am not ready to share my thoughts on the cause... not yet)

That we can overcome, we overcome, that that we can't, we learn to accept.

Up until about 2 weeks ago, I worked in Libertyville, then they transferred my ass to Schaumburg. The commute from Gurnee is a bitch. (again, that damn "accept" thing)

Ah I see they closed the original chicago thread and a new one was created here. I'm back in Chicago for a bit and I'm working on my Stealth. My question is have any of you had problems passing emissions? When I originally built my car I planned to take it with me to FL where there are no emissions but plans have sinced changed. I don't really have a garage and I already have 2 cars including another RT/TT in FL so I have no intention of bringing it down there anymore. I feel kinda bad as the car has sat for over a year. My license was already suspended because I had registered the car before I moved in IL to get it to the NG and once my extension for emissions testing ran out, they came after me. I've since told them the car is off road use only and unregistered it but I'd really like to take it on the street. I can obtain a temp. pass which gives me a 6 hour window to get the car to an emissions testing joint and pass but I seriously doubt it will. I was ruthlessly efficient in stripping off all pollution control and hiding the pieces around my parents house never to be found again. I have a main cat back on the car but I have DN precat eliminators, EGR blockoffs, and removed the evap canister system. I can lean out the car with an ARC2 before I take it in and run it hard on an interstate to warm up the main cat but it's the gas tank sniffer I'm afraid I'll fail. The car reaks of gas when I park it in a garage so I know it needs that evap system back in place. Has anyone tried to pass this test without the evap system? Does anyone know someone that can hook me up regarding these tests? Otherwise I'll be spending a few hours looking for some solenoids and the purge control valve.

Fierce, Can't help you with the evap system question as I haven't done anything in that area. But a couple of pages ago I posted the following:

Hydrocarbons (PPM - Standard is 220)
2004: 123
2002: 176
2000: 25

Carbon Monozide (% - Standard is 1.2)
2004: 0.5
2002: 0.6
2000: 0.0

Carbon Dioxide (% - Standard is N/A)
2004: 6.8
2002: 6.2 - Oh well, can't win 'em all.
2000: 10.5
As you can see in my sig, I have no cats at all.

I don't think there is a "gas tank sniffer" I think all they do is check to see if the cap holds a vacuum.

Turbos are in....car is running like a Top

Greg my friend you are da man...thanks for the help...the extra set of hands was much appreciated, also let me know how those AFC settings are working out for ya

Car builds boost almost as fast as the dr650's did....pulls damn nice...need to change my tuning a bit to match the 15g's but 10psi she ripped hard and didnt get a knock count higher than 2

Gonna take it easy on the boost until i get new tires....also picking up a SMC alky kit so i can run more boost on pump (boost higher than 15-16) and lower that intake temp charge down.

Only bad thing is I scuffed my fucking driver side front wheel at the car wash.....stupid ass guide railing shit on the ground.........eh oh well i'll deal..its not noticable and the wheels only cost me 160 bucks each when i got them.
anyways.........I cant wait till summer now........looking forward to going to the track and busting off 11's with more tuning.

hey guys: it's been awhile since I've posted. I try to check the boards early in the mornings or late nights.......life is crazy busy for me as usual.

Ro: Great to hear that your turbos are in, Ro! Wish I was able to make it to your place this past Sat.; sorry I couldn't make it. Looking forward to seeing what your Beast will do! Man, you've been through a lot!

Scott: Sheesh...you've been through a lot as well; looking forward to seeing your crayon box get "de-crayonized". I'm sure the color you've chosed will awe others and your Beast will perform incredibly after all the hard work you've accomplished!

Fierce: good to hear from you on this thread. Just slap the main cat back on and lean out your ARC2 and run it hard and hot before you arrive at the testing station; I'm sure you'll pass....best of luck to you.

Jamie: I think Sanjay already responded, but yeah I have the 357's which is supposedly a "17G killer"; I've yet to prove them but I think I'm getting closer. And my fidanza flywheel and DXD -C clutch shakes up the whole drive line and grabs like a "mutha".......but after getting used to it; it's a great set up!!!

Saiyin: yeah, I'm still around, just extremely busy! I do miss those days when Cameron would post and provide great feedback to this thread.

Todd: those pics were pretty funny. Gotta like that one of the Mini Cooper.

Nick (Ludak) : Definitely SBC / DXD F (Feramic) is what I've heard to be the best out there right now!

On a side note, I visited Eddie and the owners at SBC/DXD and they're a great bunch of guys. Their shop is definitely busy!

I'm trying to re-cap anything that pertained to me during the last few weeks in this thread......I hope I responded back to everyone.

It's 5:15a.m right now and I've got another intense week coming up; I'll try to check this message board later tonight.

Talk soon and hope all is well with everyone.

Ahmed.
