Well, I'm back in town and rode my bike to pick my car up today after leaving it at a shop for a week only to find out that it's not ready. If you remember, I took it in for an intermittent electrical problem. The shop replaced the broken power cable from the battery, but just like Pep Boys, couldn't find anything wrong when testing the batter and alternator/voltage regulator. However, this morning the car was dead, just like has happened to me a couple of times. He got it started, did some testing and still can't find a reason for the drain. Right now he speculates it could be an alt/vr going bad, but he said it's usually not intermittent like this. He also speculated it could be a faulty relay somewhere that could be sticking open and draining the battery as the car sits. So I peddled my way back home and he said he'll do some more checking and call me later today.

So, do I go ahead and replace the alternator and spend the dough risking that it won't solve the problem? Scott, remember when my car was really acting up and we could hear the clicking of a relay? Sounded like it was behind the middle of the dash, like behind the climate control or stereo. Could that be the culprit or merely a victim of the real problem? When I hear from the guy I'll post what he says.

Great just freaken great. So i'm driving back to my house from the store and two blocks away I go to shift to the next gear(driving normal), but when I press the clutch in I feel a little pop in the pedle and it loses some pressure. I dident shift right away then so i just costed in nutral and turned off of the street. When I tried to put it in 1st gear, stoped, it would go in ok and would take a little to get going but once i got going it was holding fine but when i reved it (in gear or in nutral) i can here a "loose bike chaine" type of sound. I had to limp it 2 blocks to get to my house. I'm thinking the flywheel or clutch fucked up. I hope its not anything worse. Damit she was getting tuned in goood to. With this and other stuff, I am NOT HAVING A GOOD DAY!!!

Jeff your not home I'll try later.

Dang Todd. Sounds like it could be the alt but I understand you not wanting to drop a bunch of dough on what "might" be a fix. Hmmmm. Anybody got their car apart enough to lend Todd their alternator?

J/K... I'm sure that's the last thing you want to hear. Seriously though, what's with all the bad luck lately? Do we usually have this many problems or am I smoking the good stuff again? Let us know what's up Nick.

After talking to Jeff today it seems like I need a new clutch. I really don't know what to get any more. How are the SBC clutchs working out for thoughs o fyou who have them? Looking at there web site I think the TZ series would be the right one for me but I have read here that you can take only 2 to 3 runs, then they get hot and start to slip alittle so you need to let them cool for it to stick again. Have you sbc clutch guys experianced this? My RPS maxx clutch was pritty good (like how Jeff put it) when it worked. I put about 10K miles on it and took over 25+ drag runs/launches on it and it still held. The SBC TZ also has the best price right now it looks like.
I do not want to get any kind of 6-puck so I really only have about 2/3 clutches to choose from total.

My current clutch is the RPS Stage II. While I've heard a lot of people curse RPS, I really like mine a lot! Very nice for daily driving and seems to do ok when asked to perform. However, I've been hearing a lot of great things about SBC, so next time I need a new clutch, I'll probably go that way.

Well, I picked up my car this evening and in the 2.5 miles I drove it, it was just fine. The guy was stumped. The battery checked out fine and he couldn't get the alt to fail. But yet, over the weekend the battery was driained. Could there be a relay somewhere that sometimes sticks and continues to draw power after the car is turned off thus draining the battery? He tried many times to find a power drain after the car was turned off but found nothing. So it's very intermittant.

Anyway, he replaced the bad power cable and I guess I'll just have to see how it goes. Maybe having a good cable will solve my problems. The guy was reluctant to tell me to replace the alt because he's not certain that's the problem and I can tell is worried about me getting pissed that he would tell me to spend that much money and it not resolve the problem.
