Damn, thats sucks Ro

I agree with you, this has nothing to do with the quality / reliability of Matt's turbo's. You overlooked something, and it came back to bite you. We all need to learn from that. Kudo's to you though for having the balls to say that it was your fault and arent trying to place the blame elsewhere. We all learn from our mistakes, some are just more expensive than others.

You'll have the car back running strong soon, and then you'll show us some 11 second slips

I have been very quiet about this, but I think it is time for me to end the silence, and bring all of 3SI into the "circle of trust"

Why did I not have my TT at last years national gathering? Because the bright shiney 650's Jim and Jeff installed last May/June shit the bed after 80 miles, yep, both in just 80 miles.

I picked up the replacement turbos from Matt at the gathering, because as I said, he does stand behind his products.

Jim and Jeff did the second install, and the rear turbo failed after about 1000 miles.

Both times, Jim and Jeff installed new oil lines, and I have a brand spanking new oil pump that I used with my 9bs for a few thousand miles before the first set of 650s

Ro messed up, sure, but I have a real hard time laying all the blame on him. Sorry Matt, but from my experience, the 650s ain't the most stable turbos around.

This is what I meant when I said you have to ask yourself how many times you want to install something before you get tired of paying for failure. And this is why there is not a dynamic turbo in my TT as we speak.

Arrow DR650 turbo's

That sucks to hear about too Scott

What you could do though is share with us what exactly was the problem with the 3 separate turbo's . . meaning, what exactly failed ? Did they cook ? Shaft play ? How did Matt respond, or did he give any indicator on what the problem was ? Stating they just 'failed' or 'shit the bed' is too vague.

Thanks

Wow the truth comes out about the DR650 dream spools. Who would have thought? Why is it that we never hear Sanjay bitch about the 15G's? I cant recall anyone bitching about the 15Gs.

Oh...who wants to get together this weekend? Rodney will have his car out too.

All three blown ones had enough shaft play to allow the impellers to grind on the inside of the housings. The post mortem on the first set was that they suffered from "oil starvation" New oil lines, new oil pump (I used it with my 9Bs for about 2 months before the swap)... go freaking figure.

1. I did NOT bring up my experience to do a round of one-upmanship.

2. I did NOT bring it up to try to make people feel sorry for me.

3. And I did not bring it up to trash Dynamic, if I wanted to do that I would have done it a long freakin' time ago.

Jamie, I broke my silence and brought up my experience in direct response to your statement that "this has nothing to do with the quality / reliability of Matt's turbo's" while noone can say it has everything to do with it, you definately can not say that it has nothing to do with it.

Examine the local history, the only people who have run DR turbos from the chicago area are I believe Ro, and myself.

Ro's DR550s Dead in less than a year - I believe the reason was oil starvation
Ro's DR650s Dead in less than a year - granted, admittedly dead by his own hand.
My DR650s -Take 1 - Dead in 80 miles - oil starvation (BOTH)
My DR650s -Take 2 - Rear was dead in less than 6 months - cause, who the hell knows... didn't even bother contacting Matt, not worth the time or install costs.

Anyone else run DR turbos in Chicago??? If so, speak up, if not, don't waste bandwidth saying how great they are. If you are thinking about getting them, caviate emptor

This is NOT my $.02, this is my $3,099 (including labor for 2 installs)

Good to know about your experience Scott, thanks for sharing, especially since I am(?) looking at 650R's and Stage 3 heads. If you look elsewhere on this board, there hasnt been any issues similar to this recently, so your events with DR is new news in general ( to me anyway ). I personally dont know why you stayed quiet about it for this long, I know I certainly wouldnt have

So, with all this said and digested, I may be back to square one in my quest . .

Arrow AMSOIL OIL & FLUIDS

I'm also thinking of switching all my stuff ( cars / truck / boat ) over to Amsoil oil, oil filters, and fluids ( synthetic ATF and 75W-90 ). They do seem to come recommended, and a friend is running it in his stock bottom end 980 rwhp Supra . . anyone here running it in there car or otherwise, and are the oil filters any better than say the factory Mitsu and/or Mobile 1 oil filters ? I thought that at least 1 of you here was using Amsoil . . let me know
