Cops set roadside safety checks

Published May 24, 2005, 2:38 PM CDT

The Illinois State Police announced plans today to conduct seven roadside safety checks locally to catch motorists driving under the influence and other violators during the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

Troopers also will watch for people driving on suspended licenses and those operating unsafe vehicles, police said. The enforcement effort will be conducted as part of the federally funded "You Drink and Drive, You Lose" campaign.

Police announced the following times and places for safety checks:

• 6 p.m.-11 p.m. Friday on the East-West Tollway (Interstate Highway 88) and Illinois Highway 31 in North Aurora, and on the North-South Tollway (Interstate Highway 355) at North Avenue (Illinois Highway 64) in Lombard.
• 11 p.m.-4 a.m. Friday and Saturday on the Tri-State Tollway (Interstate Highway 94) at Lake Cook Road in Deerfield, and on the Northwest Tollway (Interstate Highway 90) at Arlington Heights Road in Arlington Heights.
• 6 p.m.-11 p.m. Saturday on the Tri-State Tollway (Interstate Highway 294) at the 95th Street toll plaza near Hickory Hills.
• 11 p.m.-4 a.m. Saturday and Sunday on the Northwest Tollway (Interstate 90) at the Illinois Highway 53 toll plaza near Schaumburg.
• 11 p.m.-4 a.m. Sunday and Monday again on the Northwest Tollway at Arlington Heights Road.

Cool Re: Chicago Crew Thread #2

Hey what's the best way to get around paying 3sxperformance 1200 for the 99 3000gt lights for the 1999 bumper conversion. Apparently the lights come with the bulbs or something. Is there any good sites i can rely on for just the headlamp housings? And yes i've already tried to search in the past forums..but couldn't find anything regarding the 99 bumper conversions.

go to a local dealership for the bumper, no shipping that way.

for the lights, there is a mitsu parts site, but i forgot what it was.

well do they sell just the housings and not including the bulbs. These guys at 3sx are chargin $1250 i believe on just lights alone. How muhc did you pay for your bumper? You moded it to the 99 look right? Did you purchase it from 3sx or a dealer. Can u even chose the color or do you have to do the finish by yourself?

They only come in red, local dealer was like 560 but no shipping. Also, as far as I know the lights do not come with bulbs.

Alright Kay, here's the deal. There is no way "around" paying $1000+ for a 99 conversion... period. Stop now, don't bother, invest your time elsewhere. Just like we've all been saying about where to take your car for work. Call Jeff, plain and simple. You wanna have your car screwed up (see iceman) or get bent over and screwed (see Cameron) then go to a "performance shop".

What exactly are you asking about the headlamps and bulbs? The bulbs are $10 lightbulbs you can get at any auto parts store... the expensive part IS the headlamps, as in the entire assembly. Unfortunately, you can only buy them new from the Mitsu dealerships. 3SX and the other tuners are just buying them from dealers and reselling them to you. There are no 3rd party units. You're probably wondering about used 99 headlamps? You'd have to watch the forums 24 hours a day since any that do actually get put up for sale are snatched up immediately, and for not much less than the cost of new. High resale value 'cause everybody wants 'em.

The 99 bumpers only came in red. I had to have mine repainted black for my car. So you're talking additional $$$ for prep and paint.

My point? You cannot do a 99 conversion cheap. Sux... but 'tis true.

YipekaYay....this friggin sucks. Well I was planning to do it just under 1200 and vavoom....the light bulbs just took away the budget. Thanks for all the help guys. Is there like an ebay part of this forum where ppl sell the parts? I haven't found one...but that could also mean i wasn't looking hard enough. The respray for the bumper i was planning on doing myself...i'm volunteering with some automechanic by my place to learn more about cars and shit (Nissan expert {those ZX and Sx models}) Was hoping to get more involved with bodywork...since i'm a perfectionist type of person
