Default Possibly a spun bearing?

My car started to make this metallic grinding noise just a few days ago. Since it started making the noise I haven't driven my car. After having my car sit a few days, I start it up again but now the sound which orginally came from the bottom end which sounds like something metallic was loose internally, but now its coming from the head and sounds like loud lifter tick. I had a mechanic check it out and before he even did any tests or diagnostics, he suggested replacing the engine or rebuilding. If anyone who lives in the San Jose area can probably check out my car and see if it really does need a rebuild or a new engine, that would be really helpful. If anyone knows anybody who works on Mitsubishi engines that can help out, please post or PM me, Thanks.
