Default Car Questions for the Cali guys

Alright guys I've never posted in here mainly because I live in Ohio, however I am going to school at UCSB in about a year and I am currently doing some mods to my car. I have some questions for you guys who would know best about all the laws regarding emissions, and inspections and what not. Does the cali spec version of our car have 4 O2 sensors? What kinds of inspections do they do out there? I have heard theres a visual inspection and if it looks as though its not stock they will start checking for a cali sticker? Not sure what sticker is being referenced, but I would assume you have to get it to make any changes to the car legal in cali, am I close? I realize I wont have to get the car inspected and what not while I am going to school, but I have intentions to live there once I finish school and well obviously the car must come with me. Can I change a lot of things on my car like I am not looking to have a really fast car, more just a nice looking reliable one. So basically a lot of polishing under the hood and a color scheme. Also looking to have a nice exhaust, but not sure what I can do without having my car fail inspection. Also pending on your area are there ways around these inspections, I know my friend in PA gets around it because theres a few guys who work the stations and they have nice cars so they pass people likewise so they can keep their cars legal. I really appreciate all of your help and hope to meet some of you someday when I get out there.

Just remember what kind of a place santa barbara is.....one that's full of hippies . It might be harder to find someone there to pass you car for money than other places.

You WILL need to change your exhaust setup to pass smog legally

What I did was take my car to a shop and have them take off the old, rusting, stock exhaust and throw one on that kicked ass and passed smog. It was easy, headache free, and done in less than a day. After that, mod as you please, but keep everything you take off so you can put it back on when smog time rolls around again (every two years I believe??) I was busy with school as you will be most likely, and it was well worth paying the extra labor.

If you're planning on getting a nice exhaust eventually anyway and don't want to do everything yourself, including researching and guessing what will/won't pass, that might be a good option for you. Of course you could always do it yourself and probably save a couple bucks but gain some headache. Go nuts and throw 8 O2 sensors on there if you want
