Question Using MTX fluids in our ATX: Right / Wrong / Moot?

I have been scouring the threads for this info, but for some reason I can't seem to find it. Perhaps its just a MOOT point or worse a dumb question, but it would be really cool if someone would clarify it.

I want to know if putting MTX fluid in my ATX will help or hurt?

Does anyone have any experience with mechanical breakdown (sooner than later or vice versa) if they used MTX fluid in their ATX tranny?

Does MTX fluid in the ATX tranny for a HARD DRIVER make for smoother shifting and lower temperatures?

If you have put MTX fluid in your ATX please comment on your experience with it.

What MTX fluid did you choose to put in your ATX? (IE: Redline, Castrol, etc..)

I have been looking into putting Red Line MTL or MT-90 in my ATX. Would this be a bad idea?

A well known guru here puts in Castrol ATF+3 and says it works great and I'm probably going to take his recommendation if someone can't tell me that putting in MTX fluid provides better protection and better shifting.

If MTX fluid is a bad idea in an ATF tranny, then please report what ATF fluids would be good "high performance" choices for a hard driver. Up until now I have always put in the standard factory fluids types or stuff from Wal-Mart. I want to know what fluid is ABOVE the wal-mart/factory level.

I don't use mtx fluid in my atx, however I don't use the over-the-counter regular shit either. I use this: https://www.amsoil.com/storefront/art.aspx

I've only ran this for approximately 5-6,000 miles since the last fluid and filter change. I've done a LOT of in-city driving and even went through the mountains to the RMG that reached a 6-7k elevation change in some areas and so far no issues.

Castrol ATF+3 has served me well for the ~4 years I have owned my car. I have autocrossed with it, drag raced with it, and have had many long distance trips with it. Almost 50,000 miles later (not without an oil change of course) I remain a fan.

I have come to the conclusion that the type of oil is a rather moot topic as far as performance is concerned. More influencial is the regularity of oil and filter changes.

I change my fluid and filter yearly, which is around 10-12k miles for me.

MTX fluid is more along the lines of motor oil. Our ATX fluid has more additives in it etc, and is more along the lines of power steering fluid. This allows us to run the fluid longer and keep our tranny relatively cleaner.

Castrol ATF+3 will run just fine in our trannies. MOPAR ATF+4 is out now, and is a much improved fluid. AMSOIL is the best fluid for our trannies, but is so expensive that not many people run it. Even John at IPT uses a Dexron/Mercon with lubeguard additive.

Red face Re: Using MTX fluids in our ATX: Right / Wrong / Moot?

After rereading this thread I realized that my questions really didn't get answered. I got some good opinions, but the questions stated in the first post still remain. Can anyone comment on using MTX fluids in the ATX ? or should we because of what Caffinated Soap said about the ATF's having more additives just stick with the ATF types?

Before any rings back. Prowler - Why would you want to put MTX fluid into your ATX if its not made for your setup? The fluids that are made for ATX's are just that for atx so why not just stick to what is supposed to be run in'em?
