Is there a timer relay on a stock automatic transmission? My 94 stealth takes about a minute before it shifts into the higher gears, only does it when its cold or has been setting for about 8 hours. Anyone know about this and should it be disabled?

Let your car warm up a little before you drive it. A minute does sound a little long, it may be your clutches slipping. Does it do it any after you drive it a little?

I also have this problem but it takes me 2 minutes shift into 3rd unless I get it up to 35 MPH. Then it won't shift into 4th until after 2 minutes has passed after starting up my car. But if I let her sit for 2 minutes it will shift normally. Even if I shut off my car and its warmed up it still will take another 2 minutes to shift into 3rd. And it also shifts hard into first under braking. My tranny was rebuilt about 13k ago and I don't have the slightest clue on what it could be. Thanks

This happened to my car too and i looked around, its actually something that has to do with the ECU. But either war it up or go through a couple of stop signs. Mine usually just started shifting after a few stops. Not minutes, just stops. |

Well i'm about to swap the valve bodies and clutches out so if the vavle bodies are the problem then hopefully it will be gone. I just wish i knew more about the transmission so I could swap them out myself instead of taking it to a shop and have them do it for me. But once this is done then I'll be that much closer to starting my TT swap.

My 94 3000Gt does the same thing. when my cars sits for a least 8 hours or more. I get in and start my car and let it idle for about a minute. Then I put it into drive and as soon as I hit the gas peddle the tranny just jerks the car forward. almost like I tapped a the brake quickly. Then when I get up to 38-40 mph it won't shift til I go at least 42 mph. then the tranny performs perfect. just that first cycle through the gears.
Does anybody have any info on this transmission problem ?? |

Yep, my SL does it too. Who knows why, but the car won't shift into third until it reaches a certain temperature (not sure if it looks at coolant temp. or transmission temp.).
One time in the Winter my car was doing this longer than normal and I was on the highway coming home (90 minute trip) and didn't feel like driving the car home at like 3500 RPMs the entire way while eating gas and heating up the transmission and I figured a sensor was lose/bad but the tranny ended up being a little low on fluid so there is another reason it may do it just for future reference. Another time my car did it also (same situation) and I checked the fluid and it was fine, but it kept on doing it and it ended up being bad battery grounds (also causing starting problems-did the click click start thing or didn't start at all). Not trying to be random, just some FYI.
