Default Same Tranny Different Model?

I have a 94 Dodge Stealth SOHC Automatic and the transmission won't shift, and barely makes it into reverse. I figured to just get a new tranny but what models have the same tranny as this one? All help is appreciated.

The car was free so if i can get it working with about 500-1000 dollars then im in business.

hell, part it out. you'll make $3000+...and then you can use the cash to buy a DOHC 3/s.

in all seriousness, though, i believe all the atx FWD's are the same.

Not exactly.

You are best off finding one from a 94-99. The 91-92 are different in #1 they have a smaller diff, and #2 the solenoids are different and you have to do alot of fabbing to make it work in a 2g. I am pretty sure the 93 also has different solenoids.

oh, yep. he's right^

i remember that 3sx lists 2 different parts for the atx. 91-92, and the rest.

there's got to be TONS of 2nd gen stealth bases in junkyards. and there's ALWAYS atx haters junking their tranny's for an MTX swap. you can probably find a used tranny for $500.

I also believe that 97 98 dohc are different from 94-96 , supposedly there is a male to female connector (or vice versa) that needs to be changed the other way around.

also pm rynz3, he claims that there are many many different atx dohc transmissions among the years that are mentioned. My info above came froma certified mitsu tech stealthcrf

Can you explain this? The solenoids are inside the tranny on the valve body. What kind of fabbing would need to be done? The only thing that I would suspect to be different is the electrical connectors. Now that I think about it, I believe the later (94+) valve bodies have only two solenoids and the earlier ones have three. I see how this could cause confusion. This shouldn't be that big of a problem, worst case scenario (you can't get your harness to work with the transmission), you could just swap the valve bodies, they aren't really prone to breakage and I think they all bolt up the same. The transmission model numbers definitely did change from year to year:
F4A33-1-MNN2 1991
F4A33-1-MNP2 1992
F4A33-1-MNP8 1993
F4A33-1-MNQ2 1994
F4A33-1-MNQ7 1995-96 (+?)

However, I don't know what tweaks mitsubishi made over the years. Generally newer is probably better. I suspect the N->P->Q letter change denotes a change in the valve body (would be the easiest place for engineers to make improvements). The differential thing is interesting, but that shouldn't affect fitament. I think the f4a33 was also used in turbo fwd eclipses of similar years and possibly diamantes. Also, I believe the w4a33 on awd turbo eclipses is pretty much the same transmission with a transfer case added.

Had to satisfy my curiosity and find it. I think this is the thread:
Installed "hybrid" '91/'94 auto trans... won't shift/drive

I forgot about the half shafts. Midway through 1992 spline counts changed. So a transmission from 91 or 92 won't work unless you also get the half shafts. Looks like they also changed the valve bodies, torque converters, and tcus on different years. Doesn't seem all that bad though. As long as the torque converter, valve body, and tcu are from the same model year (yours are likely ok to reuse) and the atx and shafts are matched, you should be ok.

Unless you can get the 91-92 atx for really cheap, it would make the most sense to listen to the earlier suggestion and get the 94-99 to avoid the extra work.
