How is it rediculous? Have you actually done a trannie flush with before and after results? Have you ever consulted an automatic transmission professional to see if it is even recommended? If your gears are sticking change the fucking fluid! Simple as that. No matter what you do, trannie flush or not you are NOT going to get all the old fluid out of there unless you remove or replace the torque converter. Again, simple as that. Don't take it personal.

If your gears are sticking, or getting some weird shit going on with your atx, go try and getting it flushed. Good chance it may fix your problem. Unless of ofcoarse people like pulling trans just to find out they had stuck valves from junk being built up in it. I've had my ATX for 10 years 130,000 miles on it. Original. I've had two ATX 3/S plus other cars durring my life that are ATX. Never had a problem. *knocks on josh's head :P

Actually, on many chevy trucks they stick all the time due to "varnish" and flushing with 15 or so quarts, on a regular flushing machine that tranny shops have will often fix the problem

But how can that fully get rid of the old fluid that could still be trapped inside the internals that have damaging microscopic particles?

I think pushing 15 quarts through a 8qt container will get rid of almost anything in there.

But seriously, dropping the tranny fluid once, driving a bit, then changing it again will get rid of 90% of anything in your system.

And I'm sure an external filter would pick up the other 10%.

If I had an external filter I wouldn't be dropping my trans fluid twice every time.

That's my point..... I just don't see the purpose in having a 'trannie flush'.

What's the point of a tranny flush? Let me put it this way...

Some people don't believe in regular maintenance. Most automatic transmission owners reserve transmission maintenance for special occasions, such as their 10 year anniversaries with their cars.

I had a few MINOR problems with my ATX... a small "bump" when first starting 'er up and going from reverse to "D" after backing out of the driveway being the most noticeable. Twice(in the 2 years I've owned the car,) it missed a shift and revved to high RPM's in Neutral(Where I let off the gas and it immediately "caught" and went into gear.)

I changed my fluid as posted in this thread and neither has occured since. When I install my external cooler and external filter(Thanks, BigTyla, great kit!) I'll change my fluid again.

fluid should probably be the FIRST thing that happens for any maintenance or troubleshooting... Always start with the simple stuff. My car was 10 years old when I did the maintenance, and had LOW miles for ten years... and it looked like CRAP.

Chances are you need a flush, and like Houdini said, chances are it'll fix your problem.
