Default ATX Tranny Fluid Cooler Install Step-By-Step

I just finished my auto tranny fluid cooler install and I took some pics. I had trouble finding info on the install, so I hope this helps someone.

1. Follow the instructions included with your cooler to it set up.

2. Locate the stock cooler feed line...

...and remove it. Keep the stock line, you may need it.

3. Connect the supplied line to the cooler. The line include with my cooler wasn't long enough, so I also used the stock line.

4. Run the lines around the a/c condensor...

...and fit the cooler into the bumper. This was the hardest part of the install, because the cooler was bigger than the bumper opening.

5. Connect one feed line on the cooler to the transmission...

and the other feed line on the cooler to the stock cooler.

6. Follow the coolers instructions to secure the cooler. Make sure all of your hose clamps are tight. Add 1/2 qt. of tranny fluid...

...and you're done...

...

Really nice write up!! Where did you purchase the cooler and accessories from? I'm guessing not IPT because it sounds like it came with mounts, lines, etc.

IPT coolers have mounts and lines...but I don't think that one is from there. Great write up though. Good work!

I bought it from Advanced Auto, its the pretty much the same as what IPT sells, but no shipping charges.

i made mine for free, ran it after the stock cooler, used a similar cooler from a suburban, (prolly not stock) its not painted, it looks good mountd behind the big hole where the fog lights are missing, kinda looks like a side mount, and the trans likes it!

Do we still need to run the line through the radiator? If so, why? Wouldn't this warm up the cooled fluid? I have seen people on here with tranny coolers and the line still goes through the bottom right part of the radiator.

You do not need to run the line back to the radiator, but you should. The stock tranny cooler is in the radiator, which is why there arn't any aftermarket radiators for the ATX cars. Running the lines back through the stock cooler will only help cool the fluid even more, which is why I ran mine through the stock cooler.

I didn't think that was necessarily the case. The stock cooler uses the radiator coolant to remove some of the heat. However, using 200 degree coolant to cool your tranny fluid isn't good and will probably warm it the fluid if you use a remote cooler in series before it.

Check Mark7's post (#18)
Any interest in an external cooler/filter/gauge kit?

Also, great work with the write-up. I was considering doing one but got lazy. I also think that you are using a Hayden cooler and not a Tru-Cool one which is what IPT sells.
