Default 1st Gen auto tranny

Hey everyone. I've been a member for about 5 months now but I don't post very often. This is the first time I have really had a question that I couldn't find from searching. About 3 weeks ago my differential went and blew a hole in my transmission, requiring me to have the tranny replaced. I have a 1994 and they replaced the tranny with a 91-93. While they were at it I also had them install a transmission cooler to hopefully extend the life of this transmission. The guy told me that the transmission has ~50-60K miles on it, which in my opinion isn't too bad for a used tranny. My question is, are there any common problems with the 1st gen autos that I should worry about and also how common are blown differentials on the auto transmissions? I'm afraid to drive my car hard ever again now and I'm just wondering if it was just one of those 1 out of 1000 kinda things or are the differentials weak and driving hard will eventually blow them on any 3/S car. Thanks for any help.

You can use a 1st gen tranny on a 2nd gen? I have a 1993 Stealth and all the 1st gen trannys I find are for 1991-1992, wondering if I can buy one of those and install...

Okay so after driving the car around for a bit tonight I have concluded that the transmission this guy found for my car is a piece of shit. It's slipping really bad going into first, downshifting really hard at random times, and making a grinding/squealing sound when I accelerate. Now I have to bring the car back in and go through all this crap again. Now I'm most likely going to have to buy a brand new transmission because I no longer trust this mechanic to find a decent used one!

Ahh but they are. 91-92 has the smaller splined diff. 93 has the large diff like the 2gs. But 91-93 trannys have a different solenoid style set up. Modifications have to be made to that in order to even make it even work right.
