Default Re: What size amp can fit under the seat?

For those who have amps that barely make it, height-wise, I have an Alpine 4 channel under there, was hitting the passenger seat when having to move the seat back and forth. Added thick washers under all four bolts of the seat to get that added height under there, worked like a charm and the height difference is barely noticable.

I haven't pulled the driver's seat in over a year. I'll take a look at it today and see what we have to deal with there.

Disclaimer:
There is a reason all cars come with grade 8 bolts here, that is to hold the seat secure in event of an accident. One must make sure there is no compromise here.

With that being said the washer trick works great!

Funny how you'll forget about a thread and it will come back to haunt. I have yet to make the effort to pull the driver's seat and measure the space underneath it.

Oddly, enough, I was cleaning loose change out from under the seat today and noticed that there is very little room under there. Certainly not enough to install an amp. Bear in mine, mine is the power seat and space is taken up by the motor and drive mechanism. Manual seats may be different.

Any isntallation under there would probably require raising the seat a little bit. See Dave's disclaimer above.

I am installing some of the 93 velour seats into the 95 RT/TT for a trip and the passenger seat doesn't clear the amp period no if ands or buts. No wonder in 94 they made different seat slides as listed in caps.

Ditto. I just did the power seat conversion about 3 weeks ago, and noticed that there was barely enough room under the driver's seat to put my hand, let alone an amp.

Default What amp would you recommend to replace stock amp?

I have been searching and reading every post I could find and to say I am confused would be an understatement. First off, let me say that I am a COMPLETE novice when it comes to sound systems so I appreciate every post from the experts.
Here is my situation, I would like to replace the stock amp and HU with an aftermarket amp and HU that will power the front/rear and tweeters but, what about the auto antenna "feature" that I currently have?
Secondly, I would like to add 2 10" subs and hopefully only one more amp to power them both. That is the setup I am looking to have. I already replaced the front/rear speakers with Infinity Kappas and the tweeters with JBL 220's (whiich I absolutely love!).
Any/all replies are greatly appreciated........thanks

so what is the consensus here?

12x10x2.5 amps will or will not work?

will work with first gen non power passenger side seat?
will work with all gen non power seats?

can anyone confirm anything?

I had to change the passenger seat rail on the 93 seat to clear a 2 1/4" H x 8 1/2" W x 13" L Diamond audio amp that my 95 seats cleared. Since then the amp has been replaced with a jl e6450 17.7- x 9.25- x 2.36 and it needed some seat adjustment to clear the sides that are probably only 2" high. It's not hard to get or switch the seat rails.
