I have a base with no amp at this time. Putting in new Head unit and INFINITY REFERENCE 6012i in front and 9613i in rear. Might add sub at later date. I would like to put a new amp under pass. seat to keep it out of sight but I need to know the physical size that will fit.

Edit: I should add, the seat tracks are about 12" apart and would limit width depending on the height of the amplifier. -golfpro

Regarding amp dimensions under the seat:
My MTX is 9.4W X 9.75L X 2.1H. I placed it appromixately where I plan to install it and then put the seat back in position. I then peered under the seat with a flashlight. (It just got dark here.) There is ample clearance for width and length. The seat tracks and return spring are the width issue. The seat moves completely forward and back without disturbing the amp. It would appear to have about .5" to 1" clearance in height. There is a minor problem in the configuration of the floor beneath the seat in that it is not a flat structure. I will have to provide support under the two outboard feet of the MTX. Rubber feet, several pieces of carpeting or a small piece of wood will do. Being conservative I would estimate maximum dimensions to be: 10W X 15.75L X 2.5H An amp 3" high might fit. -golfpro Last edited by golfpro : 06-06-2005 at 10:07 PM. |

I have since installed an MTX 282 under the passenger seat and want to add a couple of considerations. When purchasing an amp for this location, take into account the wiring and how/where it attaches to the amp.
I had to rotate the position of my amp due to conflict between the wiring and the seat rails and return spring. Absolute maximum width (including wiring) is 10". There is 3" if headroom for height. It can be as long as you like just so no one sits in the rear behind the passenger seat. -golfpro |

I recommend the following Clarion amps, which fit VERY nicely under the passenger seat:
powering four speakers? Clarion APA4320 80W x 4 @ 4ohm, 115W x 4 @ 2ohm stable only 6.5" wide, 16.1" long, 2.28" tall http://www.clarion.com/usa/products/...s/APA4320.html powering two? Clarion APA2160 80W x 2 @ 4ohm, 125W x 2 @ 2ohm stable only 6.5" wide, 11.3" long, 2.28" tall http://www.clarion.com/usa/products/...s/APA2160.html The 4-channel would be slightly exposed behind the passenger seat, depending on how far back you keep it. The 2-channel is hidden well. You can use the factory Infinity amp mounting bracket, slap a piece of plexiglass on there, then mount the Clarions on top. |

I found a couple more thin amps that should fit well:
http://www.memphiscaraudio.com/products/family.asp?id=1 I believe the entire series is 7.68" wide and 2.4" tall, length depending on the model. If you're into some serious high-end car audio, I heard this today at Tweeter: http://www.audison.it/prodotti.asp?l...1&idprodotto=3 Several Audison amps have that chassis and would fit, but you will have to sell your first born to purchase one. |

some new, important info:
the length (front to back) should not exceed 10" or so. if it does, it will lay across a hump in the body that raises it slightly. if you then move the seat back and forth, the clearance drops to 2". if someone is sitting in the seat, you're out of luck. if you have to cross the raised area (between the rear bolt holes), you could possibly use thick (1-1.5") nuts with longer bolts on the rear seat mounts as risers/spacers. i tried this in testing and the seat angle is still comforable and not even noticably different. my 2.4" tall amp then had clearance, all the way forward and back, with a 240 lb passenger. |
