I just got a sub box (Smokin' VR4's quadruple 8" sub box) and now I am looking at subs and amps. I mainly listen to rock, with a little bit of hip hop/rap. Some jazz and classical as well (I know, all over the place). Anyway, I have heard good things about Polk Momo MM2084/MM2084DCV (the difference is single vs dual vc's). They are only 200RMS/400Max @ 4ohms and seem to fit the type of sound that I listen to (from user reviews). Running 4 of them, what amp/s should I use? I have considered getting a bigger amp and running these guys in parallel but I am not exactly sure about that.
Any help would be appreciated.

Run them with a powerful mono, the alpine 800watt rms should do. I forget the model. And as far as the wiring, run them like a christmas light string. Semi parallel, semi series. its a good, consistent setup because it keeps the ohms at 4 on the amp and allows for good power to the subs so they arent underpowered. Those subs you were looking at are nice, i like them. I might also check out the Infinity 8" Subs. They might not hit quite as hard, but they will definitely have a crisper, cleaner sound. Especially on the high end. Anything else, dont hesitate to PM me

STxFoo, may i suggest Image Dynamics to you. I have been using their products for a couple of years now, and i can guarantee you will not find subs that reproduce better bass than them for their cost. Theyre tight and fast with bass.
Try out this link, the ID 8 D2 V.3 is your sub of choice. Image Dynamics USA - Products - Idv.3 I have my IDMax 10" on the way for my new install. Earlier put two 12"s IDMax on a friends car powered by 1100watt monos on each... lets just say his car is friggin boomy. Also check out their range of Q amplifiers, my first stock with the amps are arriving as they launched them recently, will give some feedback on that soon.

Image Dynamics is a very nice sub for the price.
Just a little more bang for the buck is Treo subs. OMG you will be blown away. The SSI 8 ported will sound like 2 12's

I might be the only one, but i really like the way, and if you can find them, 3 JL w6's sound you wire them to a total load of 1ohm, they sound awesome, and punch pretty good. I am dating myself, but back in 1999, they were the shit

I personally would use JL or some FoCal polyglass subs, they should work pretty well in that box. Or maybe some diamond audio 8's.
I would use 8 ohm subs unless you have an amp that can handle a 1 ohm load, then go for 4ohm. There certainly are not as many manufacturers that make 8" subs as there used to be. Let me know what you come up with.... |
