So I put a new amp in my car and whenever the car is on the speakers whine in line with the alternator. Sounds like a grounding issue to me but I've looked and can't figure it out. Any things I should look for?(it seems that SOMETIMES when I mess with the Audio In plugs, it goes away, but it doesn't last... I've opened up the box and the connections look good)

Did you run the RCA cable along side the Power wire to the amp? If you did thats my guess.

oh, some info I left out. It makes no difference what the RCA source is. I can plug an ipod directly to the amp and it still makes the whine. Thats how I eliminated the power interference possibility. I also tried ground the rca plugs directy to a car screw. No change at all.

it could also be jest the rca cables alone. cheap rca's can do this. but as stated most often it is a ground issue. ground the amp better and ground the batt to the body better, as well as the head unit. it should go away. but the way you can tell if its a groundproblem is unplug all rca cables and turn it way up. then plug in the rca. if it is still there without rca its in your ground if its only there with rca's its coming from the rca or the head unit.

Did you wire the amp directly to the speakers or to the wiring harness behind the cd player? If it is wired into the wiring harness you need to unplug the stock amp under the passenger seat. Good luck

I removed the stock amp, cut the harness at the amp, then spliced wires to the resulting exposed wires(which led to the speakers) then attached the wires to the amp screwed onto the back of the passenger side back seat.
