as of right now I see two routs to do what I need to do. and what I need to do is get more bass in the car, not just boom-boom-boom bass but nice, soft, deep bass. I don't need it loud for others to hear just so I can enjoy listening and something that could play louder than my exhaust.
so anyway. here is what I came up with: 1. replace stockers with these: Parts Express:Tang Band W69-1436 6"x9" Neo Subwoofer Parts Express:Tang Band W69-1042J 6"x9" Subwoofer 2. or replace stockers with some other speakers and get 8"-10" sub with box, like an add-on. what do you guys think? any ideas?

Even if you stuck Pioneer TS-A6972R 6x9's in there, they are going to sound much better than the joke "Infinity Premium" system that comes stock.
According to the TS-A6972R's specs they go down to 28Hz for some good bass. Not very many 6x9's go that low. The stock bass-reflex housing that mounts the speakers are not exactly rocket science, but a better speaker mounted in there sounds wonderful. Subwoofer? Stick the Logitech Z-2300 in there ![]() I'm not a "boom boom" guy either, when I like to play jazz, I want to hear that deep, rich string bass. When I want to hear rock, I want to hear that tight drum set and bass and I want to hear it cleanly. 40Hz bass buzz and boom is not the highlight of my music but I can hear it cleanly since ripping out that stock "Infinity Premium" crap that came with the car. I have yet to stick a subwoofer in my car because the space and tuning is just a complete nightmare.

yeah I'm not very impressed with the stock "infinity" speakers either. Now my aftermarket infinities are amazing. 6x9 fyi. They are 300 watts iirc. With a small amp they hit better than my rockford fosgate sub did lol. Plus the silk tweeters sound amazing for vocals. I'm with Racerx, I listen to all kinds of music which is why I like having a 2 or 3 way speaker for a full range of sound...

My take on this whole subject is do not get a coax speaker. Get a decent single cone 6x9 and amp it. Then If you want to upgrade your mids and highs, upgrade your door speakers with a component set of 6 1/2's with a tweeter and crossover. You can get a set of Memphis 6 1/2 with the tweeter and crossover for less than $150. Depending on what head unit you have you can probably set all the mids and highs to your front speakers and then just low-mids and lows to your amped 6x9's. Just my 2 cents

If you arent looking for something that loud then an amped pair of 6x9's should be ok. Either that or get a small sub like a JL Audio w1 or so. They don't take up any space and you can get one for about $100 on ebay. Memphis 6x9 are about the same price on ebay.

Infinity systems are from 94-99 and the main issue is the amp. The rears are coax and they sound much better with an amp thats not distorting at 1/2 volume (Infinity)
